Toddler doesn't seem to be completely over the stomach bug....help

Hi,

My DD 2.5 yrs old caught the stomach bug a week and half back which lasted 3 days (1st day..vomiting, 2nd and 3rd day mild diarrhea). She also ran a very low grade fever.

However after the 3 days she doesn't seem to have completely recovered. Her vomiting, diarrhea and fever left her after 3 days but every alternate day she has a low grade fever for a short while or vomits out her food..... she hasn't completely recovered although it has been 8 since. I mean - shouldn't the bug's effects be continuous rather than sporadic like this? What could be happening?

Should I be worried? What should I do?

If this is her first bout with the noro virus, its pretty typical. The virus also causes a temporary (around 6 weeks to 2 months) intolerance to dairy - so you want to make sure she doesn't get any yogurt, cheese, cow's milk, ice cream, or anything with dairy in it for the next 6 weeks or so. It does take a while to get over this virus. The first ten days are the worse, and the symptoms can be sporadic like you are describing.

Thank you BellinghamCrunchie for replying. I was so sure I replied to you on this thread but now there is no reply from me.....

Anyway... yes my DD is displaying hives on contact with dairy. She used to get that until she was 16 mos old when she outgrew dairy allergy and before the virus she was able to eat almost a whole ice-cream. Now back to hives on contact.

Considering that she had a previous case of dairy allergy...do you think it will still take her 6 weeks to 2 months to outgrow the allergy? Or longer?
