All I can say today is thank goodness for ibuprofen.  DS has been having a meal every 1.5 hours since yesterday. Ouch.

Thought I would post an update:  We visited a lactation consultant yesterday and it was so very helpful!  Got Little Man to eat with much less pain and we've been able to keep it up today.  Of course, I am still sore and it does hurt a bit when he first latches, but it is going so much better than before.

Thanks everyone for the support!

So glad things are better for you!  As for airport nursing, if this is still relevant, I am a fan of sitting on the floor over by the window or something with my back against a wall for support, use cradle hold with legs bent so your knee kind of supports your arm and babe.  Happy travels!

Thanks ladies and you can do it aeterna!  Sending cheerleading your way too!

Boobies are sore today.  L clusterfed all day yesterday.  And I am having random twinges in my breasts.  Plus I am trying to learn how to nurse w/out gobs of pillows.  Not very positive today.

L is up to 9lbs 13oz at 4.5 weeks, gain of about 2oz a day!

Does anyone know what to do about L fighting at one breast?  I think it has a faster flow than the other.  Plus it has a larger areola so our latch is about a week behind the other one in terms of comfort and getting it right.

I have the same problem with one breast being preferred over the other. I have to be a lot more diligent about preparing the nipple for him (I prefer reverse pressure to rolling) and if I get engorged (usually overnight) sometimes I have to pump off a bit before he will take to it.

That, and ibuprofin. -.-

aeterna, do you do one breast per meal?

Hubby and I decided to go back to using 2 pillows to support DS while eating.  I just don't have the strength to support the baby with one arm for repeated meals.  He seems a bit happier and is fighting less, although it is not perfect but our nursing journey has shown me that nothing is.

We try to do both but he may our may not take to both (depending on how hungry, and how tired he is).

We usually use the boppy but may grab pillows if the boppy is MIA ... But it's still a two-handed affair to keep him latched on & do breast compressions!

birdie lee, keep up the good work!  I had toe curling pain for the first weeks while latching my little barracuda - the latch was fine, I just had wimpy nipples!  I rubbed my own breastmilk into my nipples, and followed that with the lanolin cream.  Was miraculous.  And the ever-more-fluffy fat rolls developing are really what make all that night wakings and nipple agony worthwhile.

Just thought I would pop in for an update after almost 8 weeks.

Breastfeeding is going pretty well.  I am still sore but it is tolerable and goes away a bit if we have our latch okay.  Sometimes DS fights at the breast and wants to latch on himself (which usually doesn't result in a good latch) so we are working on that.  Bras and tops are still very uncomfortable to wear and I am still leaking all over the place.

My baby is thriving, although I am having to avoid gassy causing veggies.  I love it when he smiles at the breast.  love.gif
