Your baby's disposition--fussy, calm, sleepy, cranky? « Back to Group Discussions

I thought it would be fun for us to talk about what our new little treasures are like, personality wise. Maybe we can garner a few laughs, or some support, what have you, if we talk about it.

So far my little guy is a sleepy, dreamy baby. He takes 3 hour naps, nurses, is alert for a bit, gets tuckered out, then wants to nurse again, then falls asleep for another few hours. He's just sweet like this. So much different than his 5 year old brother who napped for maybe 15 minutes, and fussed all day, the little bugger. I'm knocking on wood here that it won't change, but so far, this is my new little man for you.

That sounds like my Kat. She sleeps for hours, then she's awake and alert. She 'talks' to us (and in her sleep, lol) and looks around, taking it all in. Then it's milk, milk, milk! and either back to sleep or back to looking around for a bit.

so far D is just like your babe Augustmom.  He only screams when he poos

Oren is a typical newborn, just like the babies above. But I'm not assuming this is his permanent disposition - his big sister was much the same for the first 3 weeks, and then became a very high-needs baby. The only difference between the two is that DD was a great sleeper pretty much from the start, and had her days and nights sorted right away, whereas this guy is an all-night partier, and a day-napper.

We're only like 36 hours in, but so far this guy just sleeps and nurses. He's barely been awake! And when he is, he peeks out at us, then slams his eyes shut like he doesn't want to deal with anything, lol. He does have a sad, pitiful wail that he reserves for when we try to change his diaper, or someone else is holding him when he wants to nurse. I'm sure things will change in the next few days/weeks.

I'm withholding judgement, too! Two weeks tomorrow and Jasper is an amazingly easy baby. Never cries, just a tiny fuss when he poops. Nurses great, but not super long. Loves daddy (who can get him to sleep easily). Super laid back, falls asleep for the night around 10 and sleeps in 3 hour stretches (at least) until 9ish. Buuuut it is still super early. Still plenty of time for him to turn into a high needs, fussy little guy. Praying not, though... Don't I deserve one easy baby?!

9 days old, sweet sleepy newborn. Doesn't cry except sometimes during diaper changes, or if I'm taking too long to nurse him (like, say.. I'm changing him first!) I forget how much newborns sleep. Right now I am living in a fantasy land where he stays this easy and sweet forever.

Audrey isn't a fussy baby either.  She pretty much just eats, sleeps, and poops alot!  She grunts and groans constantly in her sleep and sleeps in 4 hour stretches at night.  Sometimes she is up from 10pm-2am but then will  sleep until 7 sometimes.  I can't complain!

Levi naps 2-3 hour intervals during the day and I'm SOOOO grateful. He's rarely fussy and burps on his own when you sit him up. He does get pissed when he's poopy. lol

Emily is four weeks old. For the first two she was pretty easy going and never really cried unless she was pooping or having her diaper changed. About a week or week and a half ago she started getting fussy at night, the past few nights have been pretty bad. From 9 pm to 1 am last night she cried pretty much constantly, nothing I do will calm her for long. The rest of the night and day she is fine, its just at night around 9 ish that gets pretty bad. I am thinking about trying a pacifier but I am hesitant because I don't want to mess breastfeeding up.

I think as long as breastfeeding is well established, a pacifier is fine.  It helped me very much with my DD when she was about 6 weeks old.  She only used it until she was about 5 months but it helped very much when she was up at night and just needed to suck.

So far Roam and Ember are super sleepy babies. 3 weeks and all they do is sleep and nurse and poop. At night they wake at the same time (or most of the time). It is challenging at night though since both want to cuddle really close to me so I feel kind of squished.

Eowyn is pretty chill, but she has a fussy spell from about 3 am to 7 am every night.  It's been pretty killer.

Greta will be 4 weeks old tomorrow and is really starting to "wake up". I'm pretty sure she's in the middle of a growth spurt right now. She's been attached to my boob constantly the last two days, but usually she'll nurse every 3 hours or so. She likes to lay on the floor on her own, but doesn't get enough time to do that at home. Her big sister likes to bug her when she's on the floor! She is a snuggle bug. She loves to fall asleep snuggled on my chest, with a blanket covering both of us. She is starting to make more eye contact with me and I'm just waiting for that first responsive smile. I know it could be weeks yet, but I just love when they start responding to us! She is staying awake for longer stretches during the day. At night, she'll sleep a couple of decent stretches-- 4 hours or so. But she's awake for about 2 hours in between. That's been a killer. She'll nurse, poop, nurse again, gaze around the room for a while, nurse again, then maybe go back to sleep. I'm trying to figure out how I go about changing that little habit...

Greta sounds like an angel! I think babies still have the night day confusion thing at this point. So maybe once she figures it out, she'll nurse and then sleep, rather than stay up for 2 hours after nursing her. ?
