2 year old toddler weaned and now having trouble falling asleep.

We have been about a week without nursing before bed  (or at all) and now ds cannot fall asleep. We weaned very gently over 10 months and so he has gone to sleep plenty of times without nursing, but that was just here and there and mostly with his Dad or other relatives when I wasn't around. And now since he isn't needing or asking for his "da" as he calls it every night he won't fall asleep before 1030- midnight.

I need help with new ideas and retraining the family. Please send helpful ideas or story's when weaning changes sleep patterns. I am wondering how normal this is.

How sad that no one has any input. I guess I am the only one who has gone through this? I will say that there was some tears tonight after the Bath Bottle Books then Bed routine, which use to be Boob not bottle, and after the tears and power struggle I did let him fall asleep in my bed and simply sang songs to him. He was asleep before 8. After two days of dad being away and no naps, and a week of no sleep till 10, 11 or 12. It was a much needed bath and alone time for me. singing may be my substitute for breast feeding.

I'm sorry no one replied. I'm reluctant to wean DS2 (also 2) because I'm clueless as to how I would get him to sleep otherwise, so I can't help much. Hang in there. You're not alone!

What we did when DS1 weaned at 18 months (I was pregnant and dried up) was have DH take over bedtime for a while. Once they got into a routine (bath, books, songs) that didn't involve nursing, I was able to do it, too.

This! DD isn't weaned yet, but I had this idea that she had to nurse before bed or wouldn't fall asleep. I had one night a week where DH had to put her to bed, and he gave her a bottle instead with no problems. And now we've discovered that she'll go down for him with or without a bottle. If you're not there for bedtime for a little while, maybe you guys can skip the power struggle!
