we have FLEAS, HELP!! - Page 2

We had a flea infestion which was a nightmare! nobody tells you relly, but it does take time to kill them all. It took us around 4-6 weeks to get them all! You´ll have to wait for all pupae and larvae to become adults before you can get them all!

I called someone as well, and because i was pregnant they said they can spray something but it won´t work probably. So here´s what I did:

We covered the dogs in avantage, frontline and stuff, always under vets control, but they got a lot of stuff. dogs were only allowed in one room in the house, we switched dogfood to raw. You need to treat the dogs for worms as well, since fleas transmit worms. I am not sure if they only transmit to dogs, i only treated the dogs :) not the kids or myself

I changed the sheets of every bed once a day and washed them on hot, and vacuumed the beds and the mattresses (and I never knew how dirty a bed can become!). I vacuumed the floor every day. And feather pillows can be professionally cleaned, if you don´t want to pay for this or can´t find a place who does it I guess you have to get rid of them. Maybe you can freeze them, you´ll have to look into this, I think you can but am not sure.

We treated every room with these fogger thingies. Plus I used these sprays for the floors and the beds and stuff.

I tried the water trap for fleas, but caught only one. Here is a link to different traps: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Flea-Trap

No one was allowed in bed before having a shower. that means go into bathroom, all cloth into the hamper, jump under the shower, no hair washing required, soap your body, dry yourself, towel into hamper , walk naked to clean cloth, put on pj and go to bed. I was very strict about it, and dh had to do it even if it was two a.m.

Our vet told us that bathing would not help, and since it´s a bit of a nightmare for everybody to bath these dogs we did just once.

We got rid of them just in time before DD2 was born. Now I don´t like hedgehogs anymore. I blame them for our fleas!

Hope that helps!

And we don´t have carpet, only wood and tiles.

Salt the edges of the rooms, then borax the floors, couches and beds.  Give it some time then vacuum.  We do this often and it helps.  Also wash your pets with Skin so soft from Avon.  Or just Dawn.  Much better than all the other junk out there.  If you bomb your house you will have to do it again.  Honestly it's best just to constant poor salt and borax on your floors before vacuuming.  I do this often as part of my cleaning regiment.  Keeps the critters at bay.

We tried chemicals, DE, salt, soap, traps. None of it worked. Our house was infested this summer. Dear dog wasn't even allowed in anymore at one point. But the fleas were already in, so too late. Then I tried borax, and it worked wonders. I also now make it a part of my routine cleaning to keep them at bay. Forgot to add, that yo have got to throw the vac bags away after every use when in the middle of an infestation. I too one bag and placed it in a plastic shopping bag tied shut and the next day, it sounded like a bowl of rice crispies inside. Weird. It seems like a waste to throw those bags out every time, but you just got to do it.
