Hello! I'm Sheaffer. Totally new to all of this, but I'm finding it very interesting and helpful to read about other families, and what's going on out there in mama land! I enjoy mothering my two daughters( 8.5 & 3.5) from a previous (and awful) relationship, but am married, now, to the man of my dreams, and we are expecting our first in august!!!!
We live in Huboldt County, Ca and enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle. We spend TONS of time in nature, hiking, camping, walks on the beach, and in the Redwoods. We love to travel and explore, and see phish whenever possible! My husband gave up his life on the road for us, but we try to keep as adventurous as we can (and can afford)! We eat as organic and local as possible. Going for a CSA this spring since our garden doesn't really keep us fed, it is just a nice thing for us all do together. Plus, we're still learning about the climate here and what we can grow best! We eat mostly vegetarian with some fish, eggs, and a little dairy. We have the luxury of having so many wonderful local options for dairy and fish out here on the Northcoast :)
I stay at home with the littlest lady (Adeline) while our older girl (Isabella) is in 3rd grade at a lovely charter school. I've thrown around the idea of Homeschooling (I have a Montessori background), but at this time it isn't the right thing. I figure I'll know if it is right for our family. Plus, Isabella loves the social aspect, loves her teachers, and is happy. I do part time catering-which I love, cause I'm a total foodie. Spend a ton of my time in our way too small kitchen, reading, walking, playing, dancing, hula hooping, doing crafts with the girls, and finding things in nature with which I enjoy making stuff! I have a vision of putting together a driftwood mobile for the new babe!
I have had mw assisted births with the two girls- the first completely natural, and the second had to be induced at 42 weeks due to dangerously low amniotic fluid. Had long labors with both- 26 hrs, and 35 hrs. which ended up with an epidural due to complete exhaustion. UGH. But baby was born healthy and safe :) We're going for a homebirth this go 'round. In the process of finding the right team of midwives to join our experience!
Am looking forward to keeping up with all of you, and sharing our lives on the technology wave!!!
