Extended nursing strike--working mother

Hello, I just found this thread and am desperate for advice.....

My daughter is 8 months old. She was exclusively breastfed for 4+ months, started solids after that, and supplementing with formula when I went back to work at 5.5months. I am unable to pump at work, so when I went back she would nurse in the morning, afternoon, evening, before bed, and at night. For the first couple of months it gradually become more comfort feeding and not so much nutritional, since she really took well to solid food and is a great eater.

I went through much the same process with my son, now 3, and he nursed on demand until about 18 months when he weaned himself. I wanted to go at least as long with her, but for the last month she has been nursing less and less, and it is down to just once before bed. She absolutely refuses at any other time of day. I have tried different positions, different rooms, nursing necklaces, when she is very hungry, when she is sleepy, and any other advice I have found. She is just not interested, except just before bed. She still takes a bottle, and it does not seem to be an issue with teething pain, cold, etc. Any advice is welcome! Thank you!!

I'm sorry I don't have any real advice for you. Have you tried contacting your local le leche league?

Can you try giving her liquids from an open cup and not a bottle so that all her sucking is only with you? They need to suck at that age, so the hope is that she will meet her needs nursing and not with an artificial substitute.

So sorry.  No real suggestions.  Just wanted to chime in with support b/c I am a working/pumping mama to an 8 month old who has slowed down her nursing a bit too ( though by "slow down" I mean 4x/day).  That must be stressful.  Can you pump at home to keep your supply up in the hope that perhaps your baby is just in a funky phase right now?

GL!
