I haven't posted on MDC in awhile, I had to step back from forums for a bit, but I knew if anyone had good advice on this it would be the mamas on here!
My DD (age 3) came home from preschool about 3.5 weeks ago with a rash on her belly. It looked like CP to me but she had no fever or illness signs so I took her to the Dr. In fact I took her to 3 Drs over the course of a week. One said "I don't know." #2 said it's too mild to be CP since she's not vaxed (that vaxed kids sometimes get mild cases but non-vaxed kids should have it severe? IDK, sounded weird to me). Dr #3 finally says "Oh, that's a mild case of CP." Now it's been a week and a half and they are just about healed, it had spread to her arms and legs, and 1 or 2 on her face, but was still very mild. Suddenly my DD, age 5, wakes up at 3am with a fever. She's sick for 2 days, just a fever and yucky feeling, and then gets bumps on her belly and back, under her armpits, on her bottom. Eventually it spreads to her legs, and within a week she has some on her face. She has a fairly typical "textbook" case of CP. Only maybe 25-50 bumps total, but they all went through the cycle of "dew drop", pus looking, yellow crust, scab. It could not be anything BUT Chicken pox it was so typical. She also had a "pox party" and 1 of the 3 siblings who came just got his first spots yesterday. So I'd say at this point we've confirmed pox.
Now my 5 year old is done and ready to go back to school. My 3 year old went to school while 5yo had the pox (week before thanksgiving break), then they both had a week of vacation. However, on Thanksgiving, my partner and I both have a sore throat that turns into a cold/flu type thing, I'm fighting that off now. 3yo also is acting sick but is the only one who has a fever. Partner and I don't. And 3yo swears her throat doesn't hurt, she just has a fever and is lethargic. Tonight I go to put her in the bath and what do I see but 10 bumps that look an awful lot like chicken pox again. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! runs through my mind (lol). By bedtime two had "popped" and started to scab over. Is this possible? Can she have it again? Could her first bout have been too mild and she re-got it from 5yo? She never had a fever the first time, no sickness, nothing, just itchy bumps. And we have no idea where she got it, there was no intentional exposure. I'm thinking maybe from preschool from a vaccinated kid who didn't know they had it? Or is this just a case of "some kids get rashy while sick" and I'm freaking out over nothing? It doesn't look like roseola, it's totally the "dew drop on a rose petal" look that we had before.
I'm glad they got it while they were little and it was easy and mild but I can't afford to miss more work or pull her out of preschool more days, geez louise!
Anyway, if anyone has experience with this I'd love to hear about it!
