Appointment check-ins!

Thought, since some of y'all are first time mothers, you may like to know what everyone else is going through at their doctor/midwife appointments each time.

If you wish to share, please provide your weeks and whatever info from the appointment you would like to share.

If you have ALREADY had an appointment, feel free to share that as well!

I'll start, though I haven't gone yet (I will edit this when I get home with what happens)

Today I am 7w6d and I have my first visit with my midwife.

I expect it to mostly be discussing our plans for this pregnancy and signing any initial paperwork to secure our spot with her. This will be our second pregnancy with her and our first using her the whole time (last time I moved 1100 miles at 27 weeks, when she took over my care from my very natural minded doctor)

She is a homebirth midwife, we drive 45 minutes to visit her office which is a small sunroom in her beautiful log cabin home.

Update from my appointment:

7w6d

BP: 110/60

Peed in a cup, found I am spilling ketones, discussed my morning sickness.

diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum

prescribed zoloft

went over what blood tests I want, given a sheet to go get my CBC and thyroid check at a local lab once I'm feeling better (no point trying now, I'm dehydrated, they wouldn't be able to get any blood out of me)

doing the blood test after a 2 hour fast for the best blood sugar results in case the ketone spilling wasn't due to my morning sickness making me lose weight but rather due to having diabetes and not knowing it

went over health history

next appointment is at 11w6d, will check for heartbeat and bring in all papers signed that are necessary

That time my husband gets to go so I am very excited!

My first visit isn't until 11.5 weeks, when we can hopefully hear the heartbeat.  I'm with my same HB midwife as last time, though this time as a HBAC.

I have already bombarded her with emailed questions though, she'll be sick of me by the time we get to 11 weeks!

My favorite part of her appointments is that they are at home, which means no childcare issues.

Had my first appt with a midwife at new midwife/ob practice.

My LMP EDD is 7/5/2012, but my estimate is 7/8 or 7/9 based on my cycle length and CM observation. Midwife tried to do sono to get "accurate" EDD but was having trouble getting consistent measurements so I have to go back next Friday to a different office to have sono-tech do the dating. There is no concern about pregnancy or anything, she is just being cautious since I am VBAC and does not want to cheat me out of a later due date, but doesn't want to make one up since she said going to 44 weeks wouldn't be a good thing.

I'm fine with going back. I had quite a few ultrasounds with my last baby for dating the pregnancy immediately after a miscarriage and then they kept checking her position since she was breech but they heard her heartbeat in a head-down position (if that makes sense).

I'm just annoyed because one of the reasons I was pleased to switch to this practice was because they have evening appointments so I can go after work. The only day/time I can go when the midwife and sono-tech are in the office together is a daytime appt so I have to take a half-day off from work.

Other than that, nothing special. I liked the office support person and the medical tech and the midwife. My diastolic bp was a little high (82) but I was a little anxious and it was really hot in the office.

So I'm somewhere around 8 weeks. I know it doesn't really matter since a due date is just a date. I was sure my edd for baby #1 was 1/15/06 since I was charting temps, but my docs kept it based on my lmp which made it 1/9/06. And wouldn't you know? I went into labor and had baby on 1/6/06 and he was 7lb 1oz, 19 3/4".

I just set up an interview with a new midwife (since the one I used last time is not longer practicing). I spent allot of time with her at a birth this summer (I was the doula), and I really like her. This is more for DH to meet her. Out appointment is 9:00 am Friday, December 9th.

Have fun, it's great you already got to see her in action!

I have an OB appt tomorrow, but just for proof of pregnancy for my insurance (they are real ducks and wanted "official" confirmation instead of MW. Surprise, they also won't pay her!) and then I'm not meeting with my MW until after the new year, when hopefully we can find a heartbeat. With my earlier pregnancies i met with her much earlier, just to go over health history, etc, but this time she knows there isn't much to do until 12ish weeks (when we've been able to hear babies in the past).

I've been having acupuncture for the nausea since week 6 (I'm 8w2d today), and I've seen my Naturopath since I found out I was pregnant, but I don't know if those count as appointments or not. :)

I have an awesome team of midwives who I have seen before when I had a miscarriage this past spring. I had a bit of spotting last week that got me nervous because of the previous loss so they scheduled an early ultrasound for me for a bit of piece of mind. I had the ultrasound at 7w1d and saw my little one, beating heart and all. I didn't get to hear the heartbeat, but I did see it beating. The tears just started streaming down my face when I saw that.

I had my first appointment with one of my midwives yesterday. Nothing exciting happened, but my partner came with me and he hadn't gone with me the last time when I saw the midwife so they did the whole "this is what midwifery is" for his benefit. He had a bunch of questions (most of which were kind of hilarious, actually) and then I got set up for some blood work, which I did this morning. My partner needs to get his blood checked as well since I already know I am Rh-. If he's negative then I won't need a Rhogam shot and he has no clue what his blood type is.

I have my next appointment scheduled for January and I'll get my next ultrasound around 20 weeks. I can hardly wait to see the little one again when s/he is bigger. It's still so surreal that there's a person inside of me!

I am continuing to see my acupuncturist that I started with during my IVF cycle, I have been doing prenatal massage (had my 2nd one today) and I will have my 7 week ultrasound on Thursday! We get to see how many we have at that one. I'm very excited :-).

I have my first real appointment with my midwife tonight.  Super excited! biggrinbounce.gif  I'll update tomorrow.

Just had my 2nd OB appointment yesterday. Babe is growing wonderfully! Even measuring a little ahead. No signs of what is causing my browish spotting. Cervix is nice and tight, no blood noticed on u/s. Everything is going well.

My first MW appointment isn't until 10.5 weeks, at which point we'll do the whole health history/bloodwork/etc thing. Hoping I might be able to hear the heartbeat at that appointment, as I would love to be able to tell my other kids on Christmas, but don't want to until I feel like everything is reasonably in the clear.

I cannot WAIT until my 11.5 week appt (first one) with my midwife, it's not until the Monday before christmas.   Ahhhhhhh  I am so excited for my son to hear the heartbeat with us (I hope!)

Interestingly, I got an email from my midwife's office scheduling my next ultrasound on February 20th. Way to plan ahead! (In Canada you have to go to a specialist's office for stuff like that, so I think that's why, but it still made me laugh.)

Had my first OB/GYN appointment today. They did a pap smear, breast exam, blood (7 vials worth) and urine work, and scheduled me for an ultrasound tomorrow. Gave me a bunch of pamphlets, answered my questions (and took their time to do so well, thankfully) and then sent me on my way.

I had my first appt today.  It was just the medical history/paperwork with a nurse.  Peed in a cup.  That was it.  They would've drawn blood, but the lab was closed, so will wait for all that until next time.  Next appt is in 2 weeks - will get to meet a midwife (there are 3 at the clinic as well as some OBGYNs), do the full exam stuff, & hopefully get to hear baby's heartbeat.

Had my first real appointment with my midwife last night.  :)  We talked the basics, like proper nutrition (I need more protein, sigh), health history, and all that jazz.  I really liked her and her assistant, though...  They are both on the youngish side, but they had a great calmness about them, like they really trust natural birth.  So I'm happy.  It was a good experience.  :)  Next appointment is January 6th.

Had appt on Friday afternoon. I was very late but they run late so it wasn't too bad. They didn't tell me BP so I guess it's ok. No weight gain, yet. I had a full exam minus PAP since I'm not due until May, will just get one at post-partum appt. We went through full medical history and info on prior births. Midwife again reassured that she sees no issues with VBAC (specifically since I've had a vaginal birth). We repeated U/S to confirm dating which matched my guesstimate date on the first measurement. (7/9/12) I think heartbeat was 166. Have another appointment in a month and hopefully she'll have my medical records from my c-section, by then. (I had my records from my first birth which I gave her already.) After next appointment, I will begin meeting the other docs and midwife. I like the office environment much better than my last office. More time fully dressed :-) Get to talk in her office instead of exam room. I had lots of blood drawn and cultures taken.

I had an appt on Thursday, at 9w 3d. It was a pretty standard new-to-the-practice exam -- got weighed, BP taken, had a Pap and a pelvic, found out I have a tilted uterus, chatted with the doctor. I was very happy about it because I got in and out pretty quickly and there was very little time spent with techs or anything, most of my time was spent with the OB.

I go back on the 23rd for an ultrasound (because we are not sure of dates) and then the 27th for blood tests, etc.
