My extended breastfeeding story

Hey mamas - it's been FOREVER since I've been on this board, but I wanted to share this story I wrote for Jane Pratt's website - remember Sassy magazine? If you do, you remember the "It Happened to Me" feature, right? Well, I wrote an "It Happened to Me" for her site, xoJane.com, about nursing into toddlerhood. I was prepared for a lot of "ew, gross" and instead the comments were super-awesome and supportive. Yay! I thought this community would be interested - here it is: http://www.xojane.com/it-happened-me/it-happened-me-i-breast-fed-my-child-until-she-was-4

Happy breastfeeding!

Thanks for sharing that!  It really reminded me a lot of my experiences.

This was especially funny:

Quote:

The tiny ones were sweet, nursing away in slings and under blankets, but then a boy who must have been at least three years old clambered into his mother’s lap, yanked up her shirt, and latched on. I carefully kept a neutral expression frozen on my face, trying to hide my disgust. I’d never seen a child that old nursing, and it just looked wrong. I vowed never to nurse that long.

I remember having the exact same reaction at my first LLL.  And then ending up nursing my kids longer than those kids, lol.

Thanks! It's funny how our ideas about what we'll do change along the way. I've done MANY things I swore I'd never do. Ha!
