Hi,
Â
My DD is 2.5 yrs old and has multiple allergies. She used to react with hives on dairy contact from 4 mos to 1 yr old but lately showed signs of outgrowing it (until 3 weeks back when she had a stomach bug..don't know if it was norovirus or rota but her dairy allergy severity seems to be back). She is also allergic to (we think , never diagnosed it. Only symptoms like green poop..at best and failure to gain weight until we removed wheat) - wheat, egg, chocolate, corn. Since she has these allergies anyway we figured she might have (pineapple, shellfish and nuts)so never ever tried them with her....
Â
Now a couple of weeks back we went to a LDA specialist who first ordered a stool test for her and most findings were normal (no yeast overgrowth, no ova or parasites isolated, normal Ph, no toxins , no helicobacter pylori etc....
Â
These are the findings that are making us very anxious (we have an appt with the same doc this coming Mon to go over them)
Â
Bacterial overgrowth detected:
Â
proteus species, staphylococcus spp, Alpha hemolytic streptococcus - all moderate ...which the report says should have been negative.
Â
non-pathogenic e-coli - moderate
Â
Intestinal Lysozyme - 25 (this seems the worst)Â (normal <6, borderline elevated 6-8, elevated >8)
Â
one line below that says this indicates colonic inflammation. Another line says "this can be ameleorated by retention enemas of mixed short chain fatty acid solutions".
Â
now the funny thing is they tested saliva and these are the results:
Â
Dairy, egg, soy and gliadin(gluten) sIGA - negative (which means she doesn't have these allergies right?) How accurate is saliva testing?
Â
Anyway...is this very bad?
Â
I am guessing she will go through a round of antibiotics for the above bacteria and I am OK with it... I ordered a fresh batch of Custom Probiotics (Infant formula) wwhich will be here in a day and will start her back on that (I had given her half a bottle when she was 12 mos....17 mos I think)
Â
What about the inflammation? What is a retention enema? Will that really help? Can they do it to toddlers? This is all soooo distressing ...I am panicking over it....
Â
And worse... this was before she had her 2 week bout with the stomach virus...I shudder to think what may be going on in her intestines now......
Â
I cannot help being all in tears over this....................
Â
Please help!!!!!

And if you don't like what the doc suggests, tell him you want to research it first and/or get a second opinion! There are almost always alternatives to any treatment.
