December Room Challenge -- Small Space - Page 2

Saturday turned into a day of errands but that is ok.

Sunday will be:

1. Check the P O Box and process mail

2. Finish a crochet project (may work on this tonight a bit)

3. Continue to work on wrapping and clean up the mess

4. Start to fill the shelves with neat, organized belongings!

I am joining a bit late...but I really want to get some stuff done in a small back room in our house...which at the moment I call the room of doom.

I think I am reasonably on track with Christmas preparations, so I don't mind taking on an extra job.

At the moment the room in question is mainly being used as storage for an assortment of things, like blankets, books, CDs, photos, albums, and a few containers of DS's toys. I also use it as an ironing room.

On the plus side, it does have quite a few nice chairs in it. I would really like to make it a room that would be pleasant and relaxing to sit in. At the moment being in there just makes me feel stressed!!  yikes2.gif

Think I need to take baby steps though because at the moment I almost start hyperventilating when I wonder where to start.....

The group theater tickets are almost done joy.gif.  I am waiting on 3 more people to get me the balance due.  No balance paid, no tickets.  The theater tickets arrived today, I have them sorted and ready for mail tomorrow morning.  The last 3 are processed and again just waiting for final payment.  As soon as that arrives I will stick them in the mail.

Trash went out.  Child is busy cleaning.  I feel like I need to get a better handle on the apartment mess before I start filling the closet back up. Thats ok, there are still lots of days left in the month at this point.

Tonight I have plans to sit on the sofa and crochet my heart away.

Monday will be

1. Continue to work on wrapping and clean up the mess

2. Crochet project

3. Work on organizing

4. Process mail

*I seem to have overtaken this thread but I really need the motivation-sorry.

I'm here. I just spent the day working....

report in a bit.

Kristin - where's your report?!  Just kidding.  I hope it's going well!

I have the back of my minivan filled with two huge boxes, two huge bags and a few things that didn't fit in either for the Goodwill.  ALL taken out of those two closets!

My garbage bin is full of THREE hugs trash bags.  All taken out of those two closets.  Why do kids keep broken toys?  WHY?!?  Not anymore!

And I have two large bags of "beautiful junk" to drop off at my daughter's school when break is over in January.  Again, all from those two silly closets.

I'm so stinking happy!  Things are still a bit messy when the doors are open, but I'm made a huge impact...and there's still so much more to do, but I can't even think about it until the holidays are over and I have more time.  Go me!

I can use a kick in the rear to be accountable. LOL.

Goals:

  1. Move bookshelves to the basement except for one. Move one to the basement and rearrange the rest.
  2. Move white bookshelf into the closet, extra fabric back to the basement.
  3. Move the book bookshelf into the basement, move dh's desk stuff back to his desk area.
  4. Cut the piece of plywood to replace the too narrow desk we have now.
  5. Trim that piece of plywood so it looks like a desk from pottery barn, not like a piece of plywood over the file cabinets.
  6. paint the file cabinets + desk piece. (this is a lofty goal!) Not happening.
  7. Finish holiday sewing:
  • pillowcase for dd1
  • pillowcase for dd2
  • pjs for dd1
  • pjs for dd2
  • holiday skirt for dd1 (just need to put on a button)
  • finish up long johns for dd1 (not holiday gift but need to finish).
  • if time: sew a few doll clothes.
  • line blinds that are there

 8. Wash windows + cover with plastic for winter.

9. vacuum thoroughly

10. move dog crate someplace else

11. make up bed.

I took before and almost after pictures, but don't have the camera here. Off to grocery shop.....

Great job to all of us!!! :)

DH & I came down with the flu Saturday morning and rested all weekend and last night. We'll see how today and tomorrow go.

If this is all I accomplish this month, I am happy. If I get to more items on my list, all the better!

Monday will be

1. Continue to work on wrapping and clean up the mess

2. Crochet project joy.gif  Project COMPLETE!!

3. Work on organizing

4. Process mail

Tuesday:

I am still waiting on one last payment for the tickets then I can close that out.  Stragglers  UGH

I have some last wrapping to do

I want to start a new crochet project

If the closet does not get fully put away this month I am 'ok' with that.  This is something that needs to be done 'my way' and honestly could take several weeks, or months to get complete.

I am very happy with all that I accomplished BEFORE christmas.   lets see how cleanup goes from 12-25/01-01  lol

A spectacular side benefit to doing this challenge has been that we remembered we could give my aunt (houseguest) her own bedroom, if she wanted. I called her the day before she traveled to us and asked her preferences and then we quickly changed the studio into a bedroom. It took us less than an hour to put everything away (my sewing supplies, the holiday decor, the closet contents that had been in the room after we dug out the holiday decor, etc) and get the bed from my dad's house and make the bed and room cozy for a guest. She likes it!

Sunny thats awesome... such a versatile room.

I am starting to get things into the closet.  We are slowly cleaning up from Christmas morning.  Slowly selecting which things are being kept (decorations etc).  I have a feeling there is going to be a toy/game/book overhaul in January.

I am so happy to have a closet.

OK it seems that December has kind of disappeared on me....might have to bow out of this challenge. Sheepish.gif
