MDC Running Club April 12 - Page 3

I gave myself sunday off. It has been really nice here today so I've been puttering around the yard, and doing errands. I pulled weeds in the greenhouses this morning. And I will do the situps and pushups tonight.
So, this weekI went out 5 X
ran 60 min
walked 100 min
350 situps
70 pushups

And I'm looking forward to next week.
Good job ladies!

Hi folks. Thank you for all the well wishes for my trip. I think things went very well. I had to give two talks, the first of which was the best I've ever given. The second was ok, though I had a hard time making the first half interesting. I interviewed with 9 professors in the department as well as an associate dean. No one seemed to flinch when I gave them my estimate for startup. Everyone was very friendly and seemed interested in what I do.

They will be interviewing a total of 5 people for this position (3 is typical) and I was the first to come out. I only caught who one of the other 4 is, and well, he's not competition.

I did go running twice when I was in OH, but because of my crazy week, I didn't get much total exercise in last week:

Bike: 35 min
Jog: 79 min
Walk: 145 min
situps: 360
pushups: 135

I'm now doing 45 pushups each day (3x15) where 10 are from the toes. I think next week (starting today) I'll increase that to 15.

Just got back from a 37 min run in the heat and wind. That will count for next week. Off to do those situps and pushups.

Wendy, so glad to hear all went well!!!
Babybugmama~I'm glad you are feeling motivated!!!! You've done very well, for three wks. And fwiw...I started running to lose weight, and I haven't dropped a lb, but have lost 5 inches in the waist, and 6 inches in my hips/butt...I know the weight will start lowering soon, but much of my fat is literally, turning into muscle, and though I'm melting away, the scale isn't showing it...so hey..what does the scale know!!!
Missbliss...way to go!!!

I haven't lost inches or anything! But that's okay for now. I do want to convert the fat and eventually trim down. Honestly for me if I could lose about 5-10 pounds I would be at a really good weight for me. But the running is also for peace of mind.

I think I was able to pick up the time because of working out to tapes over the winter, plus I was running last year before it got cold (until about December).

Thanks!

Geofizz congrats on completing the interview. How long until you know of anything?

I RAN today!!!

I was supposed to do a 45 min walk, according to my program, but after a while it just was SOOOO dull. So, to spice things up a bit, I ran for 1 minute and walked 4. OK, so I only ran a total of 5 minutes, but it was something, and it was really windy and I was pushing the umbrella stroller. I felt like I could have run further, but I didn't want to overdo it.

I feel great!

I have done my program for 2 weeks, so now I am going to start incorporating some running. I think I will start with 2 run/3 walk for 30 and follow that plan while still doing the same time reccs of the program I am following.

I am looking for a 5K to sign up for. There are TONS here, so it is hard to decide.

Hey Thistle -- go back and find the beginner runner thread that mamasoleil started a few months ago. You sound exactly like she did then -- And just look where she is now. Good job, mama! You're on your way.

MS -- It's sounding like things are going great. When is your race? Figure a 5 k should take something like 25-30 minutes and a 10 k twice that long. Do you think you can work up to ~50 minutes of running before then? Once I got up to running a continuous chunk of time, I've just been working to increase it by 5 minutes a week. How much would you have to increase it per week to make the 10 k? If it sounds reasonable, go for it. The adrenaline of doing something like that is going to make you go further than you could by yourself. Also, I don't see any reason why you have to run 10ks to train for a 10 k. Race day could be the first time you run that far. Seem reasonable? Is there a pace requirement? Could you do the 10 k and let yourself walk the last few minutes if you need to? (Mine has a 12 min/mile pace requirement for reopening the highway.) Can you sign up for the 10 k and run the 5 k instead if you decide to at the last minute?

(I think you can do the 10k).

After yesterday's run, I'm sure I could build myself up to the 10k, and we can do 10/1's in that race...so it is totally doable...HOWEVER, I told myself I would do the 5k, to try and actually not be last, as I know I can run it at a decent speed. I figure I'm running about 7-8mph....
And there is a 10k in my town June 13th, I'm so there!!!!
Thistle, it starts like you did yesterday...though you may want to get a better stroller, running with an umbrella stroller, isn't all that safe...I remember rollerblading with my regular stroller, and almost tipping it on turns... That's when I invested in the jogger!!!!
Keep on keeping on, and come to the new week of running....

If you heard a loud thud, it was me falling off the running wagon

We had company from out of town stay with us for a week. I didn't run at all I have no excuse.

I need to get back out there, and I plan to tomorrow. Reading about everyone's accomplishments keeps me moving....
