I want sweet potato fries so bad! But forgot to get sweet potatoes last night, ugh!
CRAVINGS!!! - Page 5
Oh yes! There are some great orchards around here. I can taste the fresh peaches now...
Yes! The farmer's market in our area is just a couple of blocks from my place so we usually get up early on Saturday mornings and walk over there. Such a great way to start the weekend. I'm already usually wanting to buy everything, I can only imagine pregnant me walking around the market buying food.
I can't get enough oranges or orange juice. And I just ate a ripe d'anjou pear and OMG... So. Good. So apparently, I want fruit. There's a pho place about 10 minutes from my house that is excellent, and I'm hoping hubby will go there with me tonight. A bowl of tasty meatball pho would really hit the spot.
I remember reading a few of you ladies were into grapefruit. I hadn't had one in a while so I figured I'd buy one or two a few weeks ago. Now we're buying grapefruit every week. haha. Our cravings are contagious! Altair, I love that you went and got some dried mango. Aren't they just the best?! I've already plowed through the huge bag I bought last week. Dang it.
Ohhh the mangos have hit the spot! My son always steals them though, so it's hard to keep them in stock here. I need more too. Everything fruit has been wonderful. Can't get enough clementines. Can't believe I prefer them to ice cream. My last pregnancy was so hard because all I wanted was pizza, coke, and ice cream! It was SO hard fighting that every day. Add to that that coke was the only thing that would stop my heartburn in the last few weeks.. I never eat crap like that and now my baby was full of it! This time I've lost 2 lbs as of 15 weeks because I'm craving healthier foods, this time last time I had gained 8 lbs.
I think this baby knows s/he is arriving in the summertime b/c a lot of my cravings are for typical hot weather foods! I really want some fresh tomatoes & strawberries, which aren't the greatest at this time of year. I agree 100% with those of you wanting to go to the farmers' markets - I can't wait either!! My other craving is for a grilled brat. I never want brats except for in the summertime. I bought some, but will cook them indoors. Hopefully, they'll still be good!
I know! I've been wanting fruit so badly lately, too. The last grapefruits I bought were kind of dried up inside, too. Such a bummer. I've been eating a ton of apples and mandarin oranges, but dang it, I want more variety!
I've also been on a lemon kick. Specifically lemon water. DP got me this contraption for Christmas that turns regular water into seltzer water since I was always having him buy me Pellegrino. I've been using the heck out of that thing and adding some fresh lemon juice to the fizzy water. In the mornings I'm all about hot water with lemon, a bit of agave and a dash of cayenne. I usually only drink that when I'm sick, but it's so good. I can't get enough!
With my first one I craved strawberries, and then with my second all I wanted was beef meat and hated onions. With this baby, it's been totally different. I've been more pickier about what I eat. I don't really crave anything, but have found a few plain things my stomach can tolerate like plain cheerios, white bread, white rice, corn, some beans, & chicken/fish. I have more aversions this time around. Like no to all fruits, green veggies, potatoes, wheat, tomatoes, cheesy foods, anything with sugar or even a hint of sweetness, anything that that's cooked with oil or has vinegar, crackers, condiments (except mayo). I'm already planning a big spread of food that I haven't been able to eat for the hubby to pick up, once the baby is born:)
Somebody enjoy a fruit salad & blueberry muffin for me :)
I'm with you guys on the summer cravings. Our babies must know when they are going to be born.
However, none of my cravings have been strange or super-strong and out of the ordinary other than a strong hankering for a particular food. But right now.... I think this is my first true (and strange) craving. I really, really, really want a Jimmy John's veggie sandwich with nutritional yeast on it.
There's a Whole Foods a couple of blocks from where I work so I go there at lunch sometimes to grab some fruit or a frozen meal if I'm in a hurry at lunch. Today they had an iced display thing full of agua frescas. I am drinking a watermelon agua fresca right now. It's not as good as if the watermelon were in season, but it's amazing since I've been wanting so many out of season fruits lately. I highly recommend it if you have access to a place like that! They're easy to make at home, too if you can find some melons in the store. My favorite agua frescas are the cantaloupe/honeydew mixed ones. So good!
