Hello everyone,
Just a question for you lovely MDC members:
My eldest fell flat faced onto the grass today and sustained a number of scratches. I know children get scratched in the backyard all the time but my concern is that the scratch came about as a result of a very strong impact, rather than getting scratched by passing by something sharp. I am worried that dirt was forced into the wound and as it didn't bleed, any bacteria that has entered hasn't had to chance to go back out. I wasn't able to clean the wound until 15 minutes later and up until I was able to clean it, it stayed covered (so not a very oxygen rich environment). I cleaned it with warm water and Dr Bronner's soap and put iodine solution afterwards. My concern obviously, is tetanus. The spot she fell in is run of the mill grass and soil (i.e no manure).
Would you be concerned if this was your child? She is completely unvaccinated. Her immune system is also a bit low at the moment, which is not helping my anxiety.
Any comments/suggestions/stories would be appreciated. Thank you.
