Toddler friendly indoor places in NYC?

Hiya!

We're going to NYC for a few weeks in December with our three year old and we're looking for some (preferably free) indoor places she can run around and explore. In London we have the Royal Festival Hall, which has lots of seating and open space, a cafe, bar, lots of stairs and lifts and is open to the public and very child friendly. You can bring your own food, there's often free live music, etc. Basically, I'm looking for a place just like the RFH, but in Brooklyn or Manhattan.

Any suggestions (apart from museums, as I have that covered) are most welcome.

I can't wait!

Everything that comes to mind is a museum- like the children's museum of manhattan and the brooklym children's museum.  There is the public library in Manhattan but it's not the best place to run around in.  Indoor places that are free are somewhat hard to come by in NYC.

have a good time!

The only place I can think of would be Grand Central Station - really a great indoor space to visit, but not sure it's what you're looking for.....

I'd look into the JCC in NYC - I'd imagine they'd have some fun kid stuff/play areas. Found this link - it may help... http://timeoutnewyorkkids.com/things-to-do/61448/nyc-play-spaces

There are many museums as you probably already know.   You should also check out Chelsea Piers:   http://www.chelseapiers.com/
