Other social networking sites?

I have a Linked In profile, and I might still have a MySpace out there somewhere (Sheepish.gif), but I refuse to get a Google Plus account (no matter how many invites I get!). I have a Twitter, but nobody knows about it and I use it for only two things... following celebrities that I don't want anyone to know I follow (my secret crush on Justin Timberlake stays here - LOL) and for putting random thoughts into the universe and keeping a record of them. It's somehow better than a journal or blog.

How about you?

My aversion to Facebook isn't about the brand name of it- I don't do any social networking sites like that. I do email, phone calls, the occasional card or letter to stay in touch with people I care for. As far as on-line goes, I am on this site and one other board, and I do it mainly for information about parenting. From what little I've seen of social networking sites there is a lot of posturing, bragging, arguing, status down-your-throat-shoving, calling out, etc and tons of stuff shared that I don't think needs to be shared. I know there can be a little bit of that here nowadays, but overall I trust the mothers and others here on MDC to give me a well-thought out answer if I need info. I like the pace here, and sometimes I do talk to other women from here off of the board when it becomes more social. There are so many smart and funny folks here that I would never get to "know" on a purely social site.

The one I use is called Chime.in because I'm friends with the people who built it.

Also, it's nice to meet some other gals who aren't on FB.  A lot of the guys on Facebook don't know I'm married and hit on my and ask me out repeatedly, so for the sake of my marriage I closed my profile, and now Mothering.com, Chime in a relatively obscure health site are the only ones I use.

I just got tired of having to say, 'Sorry, not interested in your battle of the bands invitation... '

The other thing I don't miss is the phishing software that Facebook installs on your computer... I just helped my mother (who is an avid FB user) to clean up her hard drive and she had a LOT of phishing software from FB on there, including two viruses that originated from links she clicked on through FB. It's almost worse than my old boyfriend who ended up replacing his computer every six months because he illegally downloaded stupid sports events (and who knows what else!). LOL
