No grasp reflex

Thread Starter

My one week old does not seem to have a grasp reflex.  Her hands are open nearly all the time, and she does not grab onto anything placed on her hand.  Just wondering if anyone has had this experience, and how their kids turned out.  Thanks for any thoughts!

Hi mama, congrats on your new baby! I know that prematurity can effect reflexes, not sure what your situation is, but was baby a bit early? Does she have difficulty with any other newborn reflexes? Has her ped mentioned anything about it? Sometimes nerve damage can effect that, and I've heard craniosacral work cem help sometimes. Good luck!!

I would be making a visit to the drs ASAP, if my kid didn't have a necessary reflex

My little guy's hands were much more relaxed, and less prone to grab than the other newborns I have known.  So far he's totally fine and hitting all his milestones (he is 10mo).  But I would definitely talk to your ped about it.
