should I go on antibiotics??

I went to DR today because of a really bad cough. I have some asthma medicine, I guess I have a bit of that. She said I probably have a bacterial pneumonia. She would like me to go on antibiotics and she is not a pusher. She was willing to wait 3 days to see if the asthma meds help it get better. Dh says I should just go on antibioitcs. I am afraid to. In the past I felt like they really messed with my health. I am also Breastfeeding.

I thought I could try Chinese Herbs but the clinic is closed until tomorrow. I have to improve by Thursday night or she Dr said Antibiotics.

I don't want to  go on them BUT this cough IS really bad.

any thoughts?

Well, you could wait it out a little and see if it will be helped by the asthma medication.  I don't take antibiotics since I'm pretty much allergic to all of them.  However if it's necessary to improve your health I imagine they could give you something that wouldn't be too strong.

Have you looked up bacterial pneumonia? It is usually accompanied by a high fever. Do you have a high fever?

Viral pneumonia is usually accompanied by a lower fever. Viral pneumonia does not respond to antibiotics, and usually clears on its own.

Do you have any fever at all, or just the cough? If it's just the cough, it's possible it could be walking pneumonia -- which is caused by bacteria, but is NOT as severe as traditional bacterial pneumonia. Antibiotics are sometimes used with walking pneumonia, but many cases clear on their own.

Although pneumonia may be a possibility, depending on what kind it is it may not require antibiotics, and different docs would make different recommendations.

Oh, and I'll add that for clearing mild infections, we have used Olive Leaf Extract with great success in our house.
