Erica, are you planning on doing daycare?  I honestly think most daycares don't want to do cloth because they (like so many people) think they're going to have to do pins and covers and dunk them in the toilet and such.  My son's daycare wasn't so sure, but when I showed them that it would be as simple as using sposies (I gave them pre-stuffed pockets and a wetbag to throw them in, simple as pie) they were fine with it.

feral: No, my MIL will watch her for whatever I decide to go back to work for (still undecided for f/t or p/t. I really just want to go back p/t). At first she was grossed out when I said cloth diapers, but she knows I'm not going to back down... so now she's okay with it! She even offered to wash the diapers she uses at her house. Whew. But I just had a couple friends on fb say rude things, and it's so annoying to me. They act like I want to give birth in the woods next to a tree, and live on grass and rain water. Jesus. I guess I'm just sensitive now, and the momma bear in me is already out in full force. I think it just really bothers me that I don't bash other people's way of parenting, so I don't know why people feel they can do that to me. I think the new Mom's are even WORSE to the first time Mom's. I was at a bachelorette party in March and the two new Mom's (both had babies under 6 months) you should've heard them. When I said I wanted a NUCB they both said "Oh, you won't be able to do that. You'll want an epidural. TRUST me." I just wanted to reach across the table and choke them. I guess I wasn't as sensitive then, so I did pretty well with ignoring them... but when I have actual friendssss try to second guess me, it's really aggravating. But I know... it's par for the course. I find myself just avoiding those people altogether now because I want to remain happy and blissful in my pregnancy... so THERE naysayers! Lol.

I distinctly remember the pre first baby conversations about cloth diapers lol!  I had so many people tell me it was hard and kind of pat me on the head "Now now, that's nice dearie."

Well...5.5yrs later and we're still cloth diapering...

tizzy: Ugh! And did you get the "You'll never stick with it" I REALLY want to stab those people. Apparently they don't know me at all, because if I decide on something... I'm doing it!

OH yeah, I'm laughing HARD at the people who said the same thing to me.

Guess what? I even "converted" my sister in law. - She never had an opinion either way but when she saw how STINKING EASY it was for us, she promptly ordered 40 AIOS as soon as she found out she was pregnant. :D I'm currently coveting her diaper sprayer. I NEED ONE.

I think if I could get my sister to try it FOR A WEEK, she'd be convinced. Or at least her husband the epic cheapskate of the universe would !

I laugh at them too, because "oh you'll get tired of it". oh, no no no no ! HA !HA HA HA HA!  I love it. I"ve become OBSESSED with cloth diapers. Goodmamas and wool, BE STILL MY HEART!!!! NEED MOAR!

Actually the funniest was "you'll give up on breastfeeding, its icky" "you know, some women can't make milk" "you'll get sick of the baby attached to your breast constantly"

Yeah, screw you 23 months. And that's when HE self-weaned brokenheart.gif So much for tandem! And as far as making milk? HAHAHAHAH I donated over 200oz. MOOOOOOOO! And I am SO stinking excited that this time I get to donate again! And this time? I KNOW the person i'm donating to! (My SIL is having supply issues)

MissssChotchkes: Love! Do you recommend any particular wool? My heart is obsessed with wool, but that's the only thing I haven't bought. I see so many names people seem to love, but then I see all these adorable handmade ones on etsy and I really just don't know what I should be looking for! I've been slowlyyyy building up a stash for my little lady baby, but I made myself a cloth diaper registry on amazon, so I'm trying not to go crazy! I've bought 3 packs of prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers along with their clotheez 2 sided wipes, and I bought some flip covers cause they were on sale... my cousin gave me a couple bumgenius 4.0's she got as a gift but didn't use, and my friend uses gDiapers and has their newborn set that she just sent me so I can use on Miss Ruby when she is teeny tiny.

I've got a few hand made ones from a friend whose kids outgrew em. However, the lanacare one? its spendy but oh holy mother of G-d, is it BULLET PROOF, and has an adjustable waistline.

We're working on switching to wool because I thought I was hallucinating how well my son's skin cleared up in 24 hours. (eczema YUK!) Even in the killer heat, NO HEAT RASH.

http://www.amazon.com/LANACare-Diaper-Covers-Soakers-Small/dp/B001AAYOUG/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1340981844&sr=1-3&keywords=lanacare

Its actually a REALLY good idea that you're getting a variety- you never know what'll work with your kid. Mine is LONG and SKINNY. I personally HATED G-diapers. We only found out at 2 and change what worked best for us!!! We were initially doing thirsties covers and prefolds only (had a service) then started buying a handful of fuzzibuns. Honestly, the best for us is a goodmama and a lana care wool cover. NOTHING escapes that combo. NOTHING.

chotchkes: Thank you!!!!! Definitely going to add the Lanacare to my registry. I knew nada about CD'ing at first, and gDiapers were the first that came up. My bosses daughter (who is a friend now!) randomly asked me about diapering and then we started chatting. She uses gDipaers and is okay with them, but said in hindsight if she knew more... she would've gotten a variety or fuzzibunz and the flip. So on my registry I have a handful of fuzzibunz (and a couple rumparooz) as well! I also have on there a blueberry and thirsties cover (which now I'm thinking I seriously have too many of them. I have 4 flip covers at home already) and hemp inserts and hemp fitteds. I had read a lot of good things about night time diapering with a hemp fitted and a wool cover. I'm so excited for CD'ing, it's really lame. Lol. They're so cute though!! And their little butts are so fluffy!!!

Veritas: I have that same cup in clear! I lug it around everywhere with me so I know I'm drinking enough water... andddd I may sit it on my stomach like that when I'm watching tv too. Sheepish.gif

You look so happy adorable!

you will never have enough. Once the cloth diapering addiction sets in you find yourself selling your husband's old gaming systems on ebay to pay for your goodmama fix. (My husband told me to do it!!! LOL )

I love this cup, they gave us all one at work when the company rebranded and B THREW HIS OUT when he transferred to the NC office...I was flabbergasted!  But the belly does make a convenient little shelf, and you can just lean forward and take a sip. Perfect to make sure I keep my water intake up while working orngtongue.gif

Chotchkes, I'm so interested in doing wool too, I will check out the link you sent.

OOoohhh... I love cloth diapering too... although... I had #2 and then started working full time and then, well, we went back to sposies (and now we have no one in diapers for one more month).  But we're both excited to try cloth diapering again this time around.  We also do a bit of diaper free and put our babes on the potty a lot as infants.  I did diaper free pretty much full time (except for nighttime and naps) with our 1st and he's pooped in the potty since he was 4 months old :).  That made CDing VERY easy :).

The ONLY thing I didn't like about CDing was that it was sometimes hard to fit the babies into pants.  Pretty much my only complaint though.

I LOVE wool - we love Aristocrats wool covers - we've found them to be bullet proof too!

AH I would love to do CDing again but our apartment doesn't have a washing machine 'in house' and well, there goes that.. I am just too lazy to have to walk them down to the laundry mat every day to do a cycle or 2.. esp with 2 babies .. I'm lazy!

APPARENTLY its "possible" to hand wash, but that's just an epic pain in the tuchus IMO. :P

LOL I know right? there's just no way.

You can always start later, or if you're feeling "guilty" about not being "uber green" tell whomever it is whose making you feel guilty to shut the heck up! LOL

i'm pretty sure anyone living without AC in 100 degree weather already gets an award for being green!

I held out for as long as I could, but the window units here have been going full blast non stop because even though I LOVE THE HEAT. I can't sleep if its hot.

I joke that my cloth diapering and gardening make up for the AC and the SUV.... :D  (we're reenactors so there's no way we could schlepp all the crap we have to bring in just a car )

well we don't have a car, we live in a very small apartment with no heat and no AC... and just about everything we buy locally or used at the flea markets... a lot of this isn't by choice of course- its just that Europe is so expensive in general that everyone more or less lives this way who isn't a doctor or high paid something or other.. .. if I was in the US I am sure I would have AC and a yard and probably some sort of 4wd car and I'd also totally eat some taco bell now and then if I had access too it :)  lurk.gif
