Cravings

My last two pregnancies, I didn't have any major or super crazy, or even minutely interesting cravings. But this time, I'm craving certain alcoholic beverages! This is very strange b/c I'm not much of a drinker normally. I like wine, but only have it occasionally. I do my heaviest drinking during the holidays for sure, so maybe that's why, but even then, it's nothing to get excited about.

So far I've craved bloody mary's and champagne. I'm not actually drinking alcohol right now. I will have wine occasionally as the pregnancy progresses, but I'm not even interested right now.  Fortunately I was able to make a virgin bloody mary and get some sparkling cider and those hit the spot.

Cheers! champagne.gif  ROTFLMAO.gif

Anyone else have any they'd like to share.

I don't seem to have the craving for anything as of yet...  nothing sounds good... and nothing sounds bad, lol. I'm just lost in starvation limbo. ;)

No specific cravings, but I first suspected being pregnant when I became RAVENOUSLY hungry every evening. Then, DS woke to nurse at 4:30 the other day, and I totally could not fall asleep with him, because the whole time my stomach was growling and really hurting! I made myself almost a full meal before going back to bed.

I craved anything lemon with DD, and would get terribly nauseous at the smell of peanut butter or Red Bull. With DS, I craved peanut butter and eggs. Go figure. I think my cravings will probably kick in around week 7 or so.

I'm with Jamie on the alcohol - I could REALLY go for a glass of port right now, but probably because I had (jokingly) planned on being buzzed for the entire month my in-laws were living here visiting, and now that plan is down the drain!

I was just thinking about starting this thread! :) I don't have any substantial cravings at the moment, but I really want to eat everything that's green (kale, green beans, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, asparagus, you name it). Maybe I need more vitamins?

With my son, I craved citrus. I had to eat at least one grapefruit every day. I'm really interested to see what I crave this time around.

I second (or third) the booze feeling. It's like, when you know you can't have something, all of a sudden you really want it. I've been drinking a lot of shirley temples lately. LOL.

So far, the same as last pregnancy-- potatoes, eggs, cheese and bread.

So far the only true cravings I'd say I've had are onions and sweet pickles. Both seemed to pass by now. I've eaten eggs and turkey bacon every morning for like a week but I don't know if I'd call it a craving, it's just what I like for breakfast.

Ninetales- I was trying to remember who had the onion craving, b/c I made french onion soup for the very first time the other night. It was excellent.

I'm about to go make another virgin bloody mary. I guess I can say I'm getting more "veggies" that way. (And entirely too much sodium that's not the good kind).

ugh.. I WISH I had a craving. I have a TERRIBLE food aversion that kicked in at 5wks2days (I'm 5,5 now). EVERYTHING makes me nauseous now. If people talk about food, I get ill, if I smell food, I get ill, If I see a food commercial, I get ill. There are only like 4 things that don't make me sick - cereal, eggs and baked potatoes. I started taking my prenatal at night - that gives me a little relief. But I had to wash the dishes this morning because I could smell them in the bedroom, I can't take the smell of some soaps and some incense. I remembered craving weird things last time - now I crave NOTHING. it's pretty sad.

Thebyr- Give it some time. I find that the food aversions pop up before the cravings. I usually have aversions to everything except fruits and vegetables. Meat and eggs become disgusting to me, which makes protein intake a bit hard. I'm impressed you can eat eggs!  I struggle with those the most! Onions and garlic cooking are another tough one for me...even though I absolutely love them both and put them in everything!

I'm pretty sure it's not cravings in the beginning, just things you can tolerate. :)

Yes Sally - garlic makes me turn blue. lol For some reason I can eat eggs in any form. I can even think about them and I'm ok. That's good too because besides eggs and raw cashews - I wouldn't get any protein these days.

Pickled eggs, and salsa with extra lemon juice thrown into it. Anything sour. orngtongue.gif

MM- The pickled eggs comment made me feel a little sick. greensad.gif lol.gif

I've got a strange, non food craving...showers. I think it's the underlying yucky feeling I have each morning for awhile. But I start to get this feeling like I need to take a shower, that would feel really good (it has absolutely nothing to do with getting clean).  It's the feeling, the warm water, something...I'm actually craving.  This is a new one to me.  Anyone else have any non food cravings?

so - the last few days I've craved hamburgers (even though I gave up beef like 6 years ago) and pancakes. I made a double turkey burger with onions the other day and pancakes another - both after 10 pm. They tasted like HEAVEN. SO far those are the only two things I've craved - besides carmel corn (which I haven't gotten yet).

I picked up some preggie drops (not pops) from Babies R Us yesterday - they seem to help a little with the nausea when it gets unbearable.

Yes! I can't stop washing my hands. I think it has something to do with the fact that I want to avoid getting sick. Something about the thought of not having access to over the counter drugs in case I get ill, has made me super vigilant.

I have some aversions, things like cookies or plain tea (formerly I loved tea).  As far as non food aversions, does aversion to all things house chores fit the bill?  lol.gif  I am a very clean person but lately I have been slacking, a lot.  And even more curious, I am not really too concerned about that!

Lots of cravings for fresh fruit, in particular berries of all kinds. And icy cold orange juice in large icy mugs.

I am craving soup today, I can't wait to make a pot of plain warm fresh soup.

I don't want chocolate or anything sweet at all. Ew.  That's amazing.

I am still loving sour/vinegar as I always have.

I have an aversion to cheddar and swiss but want a softer white cheese like havarti.

Mmmm, orange juice sounds REALLY good.

A few days ago (before I even knew I was pregnant) I was making DD some steamed broccoli, as always I sampled it before giving it to her and I was like BAM!  That is the BEST broccoli I've ever tasted!  I proceeded to make myself a huge plate of it enjoying every bite.  I *hope* my aversion to sweets comes back as it did my first pregnancy since that's so much healthier any way.

Mama Chickadee, I also had visions of swigging down lots of alcohol to get through a few select events this holiday season orngtongue.gif  Now I'll just be a sober witness to the madness!
