Has anyone taken Zofran while breastfeeding?

I am 5wks pregnant and already getting pretty bad morning sickness. I have a 16mo old that I'm bfing. During my first pregnancy I had 'all-day-sickness' nearly non-stop through my whole pregnancy and ended up losing 50lbs. My baby was healthy (8lbs) but I can't do that again since now I have a toddler to take care of. My doctor recommended Zofran (Ondansetron) to help with the sickness.

Zofran is excreted in rats milk, but there's been no testing on human milk. He recommended that I stop bfing my son just to be safe. The thing I can't understand though, is how can it be 'safe' (enough) for a fetus but not for a toddler?

He is very anti-breastfeeding. All the doctors here (in Korea) are. I get told off every time I go in for anything from a chest cold to a pap smear. Now they're all telling me I have to stop because Bfing while pregnant “causes miscarriages and malnutrition” which I've read elsewhere isn't true. My point is though that I can't really trust what they say about it, because they're so against it to begin with.

I tried gently weening my son by feeding him first, giving him milk and soy milk in a sippy, postponing nursing time, and ending sessions early. He refuses to be dissuaded, distracted, or filled up. He follows me around the house signing 'milk milk milk” and pulling on my shirt. He gets a lot of comfort out of it, and I really enjoy the closeness. I'd hate to cut that off before we're both ready.

On the other hand I can't just lay about for months at a time either.

If it comes down to not being able to care for him, or weening him, or taking the meds and continue breastfeeding (while monitoring his bowel movements and adding extra fiber), what would you recommend?

Has anyone gotten an OK from their doctor to be on Zofran while bfing?
