I'm looking for something like a Bumbo for my 4mo DS so he can sit upright while I'm in the kitchen cooking, or when he's eating his frozen bm teething toy, and also to eat in when we introduce solids. Â I had purchased a Prince Lionheart kind online but his cute chubby legs stuck inside the chair. Actually, the whole chair came with him when I tried to lift him out.Â
This was when he had just turned 3 months, so I figured it would only get worse as he got older, so I returned it. I heard the Bumbo has the same problem. Is there anything else out there that's similar? I'd love to avoid getting an actual high chair since we live in such a small apartment. Any ideas?

We got the Prince Lionheart as the reviews on Amazon said it's bigger than the Bumbo, so I think you're out of luck with those squishy foam baby seats.

In terms of a high chair, we have 2 booster-high-chair-things that just strap on to regular chairs- out 24-month old still uses them, and Arya (12 weeks) will be ready for one in a month or so. I like them because they don't take up much room and you can easily haul them around.

I never found the Bumbo useful with either of our kids. It's obviously not safe to perch them on a chair or table and do you really want to sit on the floor to feed your LO solids? Babies love being at the table with the family and meals are supposed to be social! Nor can they see what you're doing while you're cooking from the floor - which babies find endlessly entertaining.
I like the plain white IKEA high chair - it's easy to move around, the tray fits in a small sink and it comes apart easily for travel. My MIL has one of those booster chairs that strap onto a dining chair and it's great for a toddler but I found that as a baby DS1 was too low to see over the table!

Thanks for your reply, I figured we were out of luck with those. Do you have any links so I can see what they look like?

Don't even get me started on how jealous I am of people who have access to IKEA!
Maybe I'll just keep my eye out for Craigslist. Thanks!

| Just a quick update - the Bumbo chair has had a recall reminder as of late as the injuries due to the lack of straps has increased to well over 50 injuries to children. (The original recall alert was in 2007.) You should check out the bebePOD flex as it has safety straps. If you have a Bumbo chair and would like it replaced for free, Prince Lionheart who is a competitor to Bumbo, has a safer version of the chair (with straps to prevent wiggling out of the chair) is doing a campaign to replace up to 1,000 Bumbos with their bebePOD. If you want more info you can email us at amanda@brilliantbabyproducts.com. Disclaimer: we are Prince Lionheart's PR agency for this promotion. |
