I am expecting my 2nd baby and I am planning a HBAC with my same HB midwife from my previous HB transfer birth.  Our plan is obviously to remain home as a 1st choice, but our 2nd choice option is to transfer to NUMC if we have the time (non-emergency transfer) so that she could continue to be my care provider.  I live in Manhattan and if we had an immediate emergency transfer we'd obviously go to the closest hospital.

I have read very mixed reviews of NUMC online.  I think my biggest concern is in the PP period-- it sounds as though while rooming and private rooms are the norm, the baby will still be taken to the nursery for check-ups, including soon after birth.  I just can't do that!  Even with my c-section last time (St Vincents), our son was never taken away from us for a minute.  No bath, no shots, no checkups out of our room.  Even during recovery.

I cannot imagine someone taking my baby from me. It's literally giving me nightmares.  Whether after a c-section or a VBAC.  The c-section worries me more b/c I will be less able to argue my point as I'm recovering.

Has anyone toured there?  Birthed there?

Thanks. Â
