I think as long as you are eating reasonably, your body does what it does. It takes care of itself.
My first pregnancy I gained wayyyy too much weight. I just ate wayyyy too much and didn't exercise. It was way unhealthy.
I was overweight when I started my second pregnancy and I gained like 10 pounds the entire pregnancy. After giving birth, I weighed less than I started. The baby was larger then my first by a pound.
I'm' only 10 weeks now and still very much over weight but I have been exercising a lot. Like 5-6 times a week at the gym. I started the routine in April and just continued it and didn't let up. I have lost a significant amount of weight, but now it's starting to level off. I'm sort of loosing weight and gaining it. My body does what it does, I'm not too worried about it - and I'm not really keeping track. I imagine like last time, I will gain minimally - because of my starting weight.
I have been to the doctors because of allergy problems and such and get weighed here and there, but it's hard to compare cause its different times of days, different scales, etc. However, I think over the trimester I have lost 8-10 lbs and have not starved my body of any valuable nutrients. I have over indulged in sweets over the holidays - which I must curb. It's not good.

I have no clue why people wait to wear maternity clothes, or complain about them. I LOVE THEM! ;-) This time around I weight more than last time, so I can't reuse many of them, but I waited until gap had a 50-60% off sale and bought a ton. Their full panel dress pants are heavenly!
I was trying to hide being pregnant at work until last week, so I really needed baggy shirts. Maternity shirts are so form fitting, so I held off on those until now.
Right now I am 13 weeks (tomorrow) and my belly looks like it did at 20 weeks with my first pregnancy. I know it's just all my organs pushed up, but I really look pregnant.
I was going to start a weight gain thread-- this pregnancy is confusing me! Last time I was at the exact recommended weight for my height (which was very skinny looking) and I gained 8 lbs by the end of my first trimester. This time I started 25 lbs overweight, and lost 4 lbs the first trimester. I am so hoping that means I can keep my weight gain reasonable. I gained 30 lbs last time and ultimately only lost 5 (lost 15, then gained back 10 as my son started solids and breastfeeding decreased). Did any moms starting at a higher weight manage to gain less in subsequent pregnancies, just from not having to gain the extra fat padding? I can hope!
