Is DS eating too much solid food?

My DS is 7 months old and I introduced solid food a month ago. At first I just jud BLW with large chunks of food, but I don't think I have the temperament to see him gag and not panic! So I started hand feeding him table food in small pieces, and he loves it. Dahl rice, curry, chicken, okra, broccoli, squash, tofu, turkey, all kinds of good stuff.

I'm kind of alarmed at the amount he eats since I expected that he would only eat a few spoonfuls at every meal and most of his nutrition would come from breastmilk. But he LOVES solids and eagerly grabs at my hand when I'm feeding him. He easily downs about a 1/4 cup of food 3x a day. I nurse him very frequently--before and after naps and at nightwakings, so about 7x a day--but he still likes a lot of solids. He does only nurse for about 2-3 minutes after the letdown, maybe I'm not making enough milk? I am drinking lots of Mother's Milk Tea and I feel quite full in the breasts between nursings.

Should I cut back on the solid food even though he seems happy? I know that most of his nutrition is supposed to be from milk. Is it possible that too much solid food will harm him?

i would not sorry too much and take your cues from him for the most part, the one thing that you can make sure to do is to nurse him right before any solid meal you offer. also incur age him to eat slowly. other than that it sounds like he is doing great!

also gagging is different than choking, and a little gaging seems like part of the process as he learns to move food around his mouth, experiment with the size, shape and consistency of the finger food and you should find stuff that works better than others. i have twins and they like different size food, one likes french fry shape so they can hold it, the other likes to put the whole thing in their mouth so smaller pieces worked at first, though they both can do both sizes now.

my dd is doing the same thing, started solids at 6 months, and almost immediately she wanted more. she eats at least 3/4 cup a day of food, and just fruit and veggies dont satisfy her. I give her egg yolks, chicken, beef, liver and oysters, and she gobbles it up. She still nurses 4 or 5 times a day though, and I only feed her after she has nursed. I am curious if she is eating too much solids as well!
