help! need pregnancy care in Asheville after 28weeks

Thread Starter

A friend of mine just moved to Asheville.  She went to her first OB appointment today and is miserable.  She wants a homebirth, but all the midwives she's talked to won't take her because she's too far along (33weeks). The Dr. was a nightmare, told her that her baby will bleed to death if she doesn't do Vit. K, questioned the accuracy of her family history and generally made her feel small and vulnerable.  If she has to be in a hospital, she at least deserves a care team that is -caring- about her!

Does anyone have any suggestions?  She's on medicaid.

I have suggestions (and good for her to seek care elsewhere if she is not comfortable with her current provider), but prefer to communicate off list. There are many options in AVL beyond what is publicly advertised. Feel free to contact me at any point should you or she desire to chat further. My info is below.

Warmly,

-Stacey

“Whatever way birth happens, it is your rite of passage into motherhood, and that passage is to be celebrated.
Natural childbirth is a passage, cesarean birth is a passage, and birth with an epidural is a passage to be celebrated.
That passage cannot be taken away from you. Every mother’s birth experience is valid, and an act of courage.”

I am pretty sure she takes Medicaid, and she actually practices within 2 hours of her home, which includes Asheville.
