just got my period?! « Back to Group Discussions

Ok, so I'm a little upset because it appears as though I just got my period.  I breastfeed Ada every 2-2.5 hours during the day and she eats once at night.  I do work out of the home 2 full days and 1 half day per week so she gets bottles on those days (although dh brings her to me at work one of those days to feed her).  When I am with her I am carrying her, snuggling her almost all day long.  This just doesn't seem right!  It feels wrong to be menstruating and bfing at the same time & I am worried about my milk supply.  Any thoughts???  I'm freaking out a little bit.  Anyone have experience with this?

I don't have mine back yet, but it's not abnormal to get it. Other people have had theirs back for months now :)

Definitely got mine today. DD was born July 18th, so I was without it for exactly 5 months tomorrow. I cried. I felt odd in some way, like it officially meant my pregnancy was over, even though I gave birth 5 months ago.  Last week I had a LOT of trouble pumping (I also work two nights per week and DD is bottle fed) and my breasts didn't feel "full" at all. I assumed I wasn't drinking enough water, but I chugged gallons and it didn't seem to help. It must have been a dip or spike in hormone levels, because since my period started, my milk supply came back to normal. (PHEW!)

I got mine back at 2 months postpartum with my second child. I was nursing her like every hour day and night so I was shocked too. She never had a bottle or pacifiers on a regular basis. My midwife at the time just said "You're super fertile!" I didn't have any supply issues. She ended up nursing for 17 months which was halfway through my pregnancy with Augustus.

HA HA HA HA HA HA....sorry, bout of hysterical laughter here at that comment. After going through massive fertility treatments to conceive DD, I got my period back around 2-3 months, too. Does that mean I'm super fertile now too? I guess it's possible... I had a dip in my supply with each period, but it bounced right back.

I got mine back just shy of three months after the twins were born, and I'm nursing TWO! We feed every few hours and haven't done bottles more than twice. I haven't noticed a dip in my supply at all. I was definitely a little sad to have my period back, but in a way I was excited about it too. I did cry that day. It had been a year since I had to deal with having my period! Crazy to think that I could have had another child just a few months after having twins... CRAZY!

Beth--I totally feel like crying too.  I feel like wait a minute, I JUST had a baby, everything can't just go to normal already!!  I'm still nervous about milk supply issues because dd has seemed a little frustrated over the last few days while nursing.  We'll see.

2 months?!  That's horrible!!

My babies seemed a little fussy or frustrated the past week while nursing, too. They will pull off the nipple, then go back on, sometimes fuss a little at the same time. I talked to a lactation consultant a few days ago to ask about it and she said that it's TOTALLY normal for babies to start doing that around 4 months. She said not to worry, as long as they have wet diapers and are gaining weight, it doesn't matter how long they eat and that the pulling off the nipple is them just being 4-month-old distracted babies.

I got my first period at 6 w pp. nd have had 4 total since Norrie was born. She spits a bit more th first day but otherwise no issues. just drink lots of fluids if you are worried.

It's possible! One of my aunts went through a lot of fertility issues and after having her first child, she easily had 5 more. I hope it's the same for you! (For however many you want, not necessarily 5 lol)

I did have a dip in my supply during every period as well. For me, it just meant that my DD wanted to nurse longer and more often to make up the difference. I didn't start ovulating until she was about a year old and shortly after that is when I got pregnant with Augustus. I still nursed her without issues until she weaned herself around week 20 of my pregnancy.

I got mine 2 months pp too, feeding DD every 1-2 hours, no pacis, no bottles. Oh and I had stopped bleeding from the birth a week before. I'm still POd about that one LOL.

That's pretty much what happened to me! I remember calling a nurse because I was so confused about why I was bleeding again. She said "Is it like....a period?" I felt like such an idiot LOL

I wasn't sure whether to start a new thread or tack onto this one. I got my first period in Jan and it was super light. I had heard the first one can be brutal, so I thought hey if this is the new norm, this rocks. Well its that time of the month again and this one is MUCH heavier. I'm soaking through regular tampons in 2-3 hrs, which I don't think I've ever done. It's hard to remember though because I've used a diva cup since 2007, but now that I've had a baby I need the size 2 diva cup because the one I have is too small now and leaks. I just haven't had a chance to get it yet.

Did anyone else experience anything like this? After all the post-birth 'keeping an eye on any bleeding' it has me a little freaked out that something is wrong even though I'm sure I'm too far past for that to really be a concern now. I'm just not super crampy for all the blood and clots that are coming out and I feel like maybe I should be?

Any btdt advice or a thumbs up/down if this is normal is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
