where does your newborn sleep during the day?

Do you put your newborns down to sleep by themselves during the day?  I just can't seem to bring myself to do it!  She's so cuddly and tiny.  I've been either napping/laying with her or holding/wearing her while she sleeps.  I'm wondering if I'm going to regret this when I'm home alone next week with my 2yo and the baby, though.  I'm pretty comfortable wearing her while she sleeps (my muscles are relearning anyway), but physically I don't think I'm ready yet for squats and such to get down on DD1's level.

Just wondering what all of you do with your sleeping newborns (or plan to do).

I got a moses basket so Baby can sleep right next to me wherever I am... assuming I can put him/her down! I can't wait to hold and wear my baby, and since I don't have other kids yet, I'll have the luxury of doing that whenever I want.

Usually on or next to me - we're cuddlers, too. =) but then, I don't have any other kids to worry about!

Mini pack and play, sling, couch (usually with me next to him- we've been Amazon shopping a lot. LOL), bowl chair (I can see him from the living room/kitchen), with DD or DH, etc. Right now he's sleeping next to me on the couch cuddled up to my leg.

For the most part she's sleeping in our arms/on our chests, but we've been trying a bit more to put her down in her bassinette so that we can get things done (showers, loading the dishwasher, cooking, etc). She's not doing very well sleeping by herself at night, so we're hoping that spending a bit more time there during the day will help her be more used to it at night.

So far she sleeps mostly in my arms during the day, and with us in bed during the night.

I have an almost 4 yo, almost 2 yo, and 10 day old...I do a combo for daytime sleep - sling, arms/chest, or this rocker http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Newborn-Rock-Sleeper-Yellow/dp/B002M77N22/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324081335&sr=8-1

He was either sleeping in a swing or next to me in bed when I take my daily nap but I finally found my Moby today so I've been wearing him pretty much all day. He's snuggled up in it sleeping as I type this :) I bought the Moby right before DD started crawling so I didn't get to use it much and I've been so excited to actually use it with DS. Plus, I'm going to work a little bit in January before we move and I'll definitely need the Moby then so I can wear DS at work.

On the boob. She wakes up and cries when I take her off, same as at night. I got her to co-sleep with me for a few hours yesterday morning but I think she wised up to the fact that she's not in-arms when she's in bed, because that was a no-go today, too.

My ds sleeps wonderfully in the swing or bouncer, but after 4pm he MUST be held. Holding him right now, so this is short...

Maya wrap or Sweetpeace swing. With me in the queen size bed for one nap a day and all night. Love this little elf!

I think I'll have to do a combination of things, too, when DH goes to work next week.  Much as I'd like to be all Continuum Concept and wear her all day long, I don't think my body could take it.  And cleaning up countless pee accidents on the floor -- we're having some serious potty regression here -- seems impossible with a baby strapped to me.  I'm just not that athletic!  I'll have to break out the bouncy seat.

I am feeling very nostalgic for DD1's newborn stage.  My butt was glued to the glider, and she was glued to me.  I re-read all of Jane Austen during her newborn time.  Instead of listening to the rustle of pages being turned, this baby is going to be listening to DD1 running wildly around the house and me saying "It's time to sit on the potty!" a jillion times per day.

On me or in the Moby.  DH and I were just talking about this since he goes back to work Monday.  I think it will be too hard to take care of ds1 if I don't start with a Moses basket or something for some of the time.  Mamatangerine-- I'm feeling super nostalgic as well.  I had just commented on what a different family and world this is for ds2.  So loud and chaotic with ds1 jumping and screaming and just being a three year old.  Not that I'd trade either, but I sort of wish I could spend the newborn stage with just one to worry about.  I always feel like I'm not meeting someone's needs and I'm missing being able to *just* snuggle and get to know each other.

Everywhere depending what is going on lol...ok in all seriousness, she sleeps in bed with me at night and for any planned nap time. She sleeps well in her bucket seat, and pretty good in the bouncer (tried the swing today while I was showering but she wet herself and cried the whole time so I'm not sure if she would sleep in there). She mostly sleeps on me lap or right next to me...she slept great in the Moby for a couple hours last night; but, I realized my body isn't quite ready to wear her yet (in a lot of pain and bleeding way increased) so I will probably wait a week or so until we do anymore extended wearing...might to 20min spurts or something. We've been having major potty regression here too..DS2 (2 1/2) has been PT'd for nearly a year and he's been having accidents everywhere all day long; we ended up putting diapers back on :-( Today he was so upset about the diaper I let him wear underwear but told him if he has any accidents the diaper goes back on...DS1 was much more newly PT'd when DS2 was born, but, I remember having to go back to diapers for a couple weeks with him too and then all of the sudden he was ready to wear underwear again and did fine...not sure entirely of the connection, but, I am sure it had something to do with attention/adjusting to baby.

Same here.

In bed with me at night. On the couch next to me. On my bed next to me (been locking myself in my room to finish finals). In his carseat while I take a sits bath or tidy up a little. Once or twice in his swing, but my older 2 want to play with the swing too much so I don't trust them to leave him alone in it. Or, on me.

I have a Maya Wrap but I haven't used it yet.

Still waiting for baby, but we've put some thought into this subject and here is our plan:

We generally co-sleep in the same bed at night with newborns, but we've turned a crib into a sidecar this time around --worried about the 2yo climbing/rolling onto baby at night.  We've purchased our first Moses basket because I worry that 2yo will sneak off and try to pick up/play with baby during nap times. *We also have a second level in our house this time around, and I just feel more comfortable keeping baby close by.

P.S.  The moby wrap  has worked well for us in the newborn stage -- allows baby to be upright and relieves gas for baby.  Super comfortable, but can get hot.  It's a good time of year for that, though.smile.gif  I LOVE my Maya ring slings when baby gets bigger and I can do the front-facing and hip holds.

Amanda:  I have the same Maya sling.  I wore my three daughters in it straight up to the 35-lb weight limit.  I LOVE those colors, and so did my babies!  I got loads of compliments in that sling.  During this pregnancy, it finally started to come apart at the gathers in the shoulder.  :(  I don't sew well, so I've got a replacement.greensad.gif
