I think I need to take a look at our overall budget and see about making some changes so that I can substitute expenditure in one place for chickens. I want them from our farm delivery, not from factories, so I need to figure out how. Last year we grew all our veggies except onions. This year I planted onions (for over-winter), and I have more room so hopefully I'll be able to put up a lot for the later Fall and winter months. I can use the money we would have normally spent on veggies for happy chickens. 


We got a huge chest freezer this summer. A bulk beef order is in our future but it's looking like a $1k purchase...gotta work up to that! 


I've never done an item-by-item breakdown of our food budget. It would be interesting to do!
