I'm working on my dd's xmas gift - a sack doll (her first doll). I've tried forming the head now about 5 times and it's still too soft! Am I missing something? Any tips on how to get a really firm head? I've tried stuffing the tubing, I've tried prerolling a ball and forming the cross of wool over it - always too soft! Could it be my wool?

Can't get the Waldorf doll head firm enough! Any tips?

This advice may be too late, but what I do is make a really firm ball of wool, then wrap string around it in all directions to make a hard ball. Then I take a big square of wool batt and put it over the ball and tie a string around the extra on the bottom. Without the string tying the inner ball, it's really hard to get a firm head. Good luck! I'm making a doll for my daughter for Christmas, too!

Thank you! I decided to go with my original head, though it's a bit soft. I've decided to update here in case anyone else has the same question - I did have the wrong wool - I was using roving and not batting. I think I could have acheived a much firmer head with batting. Ah well, next time!
