My son is intact, and every time we go to the ped he "gently" retracts to the point of resistance. I didn't think much of it because DS seems fine with it (He's 20 months) and he's not forcing it, but the more information I read about intact males, the more I realize that the ped shouldn't retract the foreskin at all. I wanted to bring this up at the next visit, but he already thinks I'm a loon because we stopped vaccinating. I really wanted an "official" looking article or something like that to give him. Can anyone help me with a link to something like that? I'm looking for something that specifically describes why the intact foreskin should not be retracted, even gently.

Need information to give to the ped
I have been doing research on the topic as well. Here is a great website I found with printable pamphlets:
Â
while on the homepage their is a little box halfway down the page that says "pamphlets for parents and professionals"
Â
There are also articles available through the website. Hope this helps.

I think it's harmful because as long as he's peeing fine and not having problems, it's setting up a situation where he's going to say your child has phimosis, say...if he's not retractable by 3. I doubt the retraction itself is causing any harm, is there redness, swelling, pain, problems with urination?
