Are baby shoes a cruel joke?

Or is there some magical trick to keeping them on baby???

I'd have to cut off his little foot circulation to keep them on him!  I always get weird looks about him not having shoes on.  Yeah, his socks are getting filthy, but that's my problem right?  It's easier to not put shoes on him, then constantly chase them down.

So, seriously... is there a trick?

No joke, I've seriously considered lining his shoes with velcro.

I've found socks worse than shoes! In fact the only time my kids wear shoes before they're walking is to keep the socks on the rare occasions they wear real clothes instead of footie PJs.
Have you tried Robeez-type shoes? There's usually a good selection of them at kids' consignment shops.

Is your baby walking yet? If not, he doesn't need to wear shoes or socks. Shoes more likely do more harm than good, since they restrict his feet, and socks are also not great, since he cannot play with his feet, which is important for his coordination development. I don't understand why everyone seems to think they'll get cold feet without socks--if I don't need gloves, my baby doesn't need socks.

He's not independently walking.  He's almost 11 months old, so he's hand/pants/furniture walking.  Past the furniture surfing sideways scoot, but not enough confidence yet to walk on his own.

I'd never heard of the Robeez shoes, I'll have to see if Once Upon a child has some.  Thanks for the suggestion.

How old is he?  We used Robeez a lot.  I've found them fairly cheap at rummage sales.

Sorry, a few people posted, including you with the age, while I had the window open and came back to post!

Yeah you don't have to use proper shoes at that age, but on the other hand it's possible he'll take anything else off his feet too. :D LOL

Definitely try a Robeez type shoe. They shouldn't cut off circulation, and work like a charm.

I like to use little shoes to keep socks on because it is cold where I live.  My favorite are the Isabooties -- very soft and won't cut off circulation.  I used them with my daughter a few years ago, and I found that they work really well with my baby boy.  Now Isabooties is out of business, but a few stores still have them.  Here is one:

Try Rubberooz.. or something like that. They're $10 at Walmart. The top is like a sock, and kind of clings to the ankle like a sock, and the bottom is a bendable, non-slip rubber sole with little grippers. DD didn't really wear shoes before she started to walk at 10 months, and now she wears her Rubberooz most of the time. She is just starting to wear snow boots here and there when necessary but she definitely moves more awkwardly in them and also takes them off.

When DS was a babe, I cared even less than I do now about what people would say - I just chalked it up to being a clueless, broke, first time mama (not completely the case, but it sure made people lay off). The first time he wore shoes he was 1 year and 2 weeks.. I know because it was the day of my wedding! lol.gif

My twins wore shoes for the very first time last week cause they were party shoes for their first birthday. Now we are happy back to socks until they are walking outside, otherwise I think its silly.

i do really like the idea of skidders the socks with the rubber soles and I have their baby sock lighter version and like them.
