What can we do with our old changing table?

It's in the garage, ready to be donated. But then I started thinking that it could still be useful to us. Could we use it to store bins of legos or Playmobil? Could we make it into something else that might be useful to us?

I don't really want to use it for basement/garage storage, since the wood is likely to get ruined. But maybe there's a place for it in our home.

Problem is, it looks very much like a changing table, even with the pad removed. (It has "sides" along the top to keep a baby from rolling off.) We could hack it up and make it look less like a changing table, I suppose. But then if we want to get rid of it in the future, it will no longer work as a changing table.

Anyone have any ideas for using this piece without changing its look/structure?

I would find baskets that fit on it well and use it for toy storage - two baskets on the top and two on the lower shelf

Unless you have very gentle kids, I think it would get nicked and banged up pretty quickly, even just by pulling baskets in and out, so if you hope to eventually pass it on it may no longer be in the best shape.  My vote would be to donate it for it's intended purpose before it's no longer an option.

Ours in used as a TV stand in the master bedroom. Ha! I know, classy!  But it doesn't look too bad, actually, and it's the perfect size to hold the 36" LCD TV and the shelves hold the DVR, video game system, and a DVD player.  The playroom is a good idea, though.

I sold mine on Craigslist.  :)  But you could turn yours into a bar cart!

I have seen some cool pictures of them turned into laundry sorters, gift wrap stations, and taken apart and turned into small wall shelves.

If it were me, I would probably use it for children's books or bins of toys.  I am not very handy.  This way you do not have to alter its original structure.  Good luck.

i use ours for toy storage with baskets on it. We were using it as a bookshelf as well, but the cheap-o shelves couldn't handle the weight!

I plan to turn ours into a potting bench when we're done with the baby stage, but we do have the Sniglar from Ikea so it's pretty anonymous looking as it is.

I remember seeing one in a decorating magazine that was turned into a mini bar.

i use mine in the laundry room for storing seasonal stuff  and for folding laundry on. its a perfect shelf!
