I am 14 weeks today and am still a few pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight of 122 (which is 6-8 pounds under where I started with #1). I looked at my doc chart from #1 and at this point last time I was at 138. DH says not to worry but being 18 pound lighter at 14 weeks seems really weird to me. Will ask midwife this week, but I am curious if anybody else has had this experience? Besides being post-21 months of breastfeeding which took a toll on my body, I also have a totally different diet this time around... Hopefully all this is normal!
No weight gain at 14 weeks?
I don't think I'd be too concerned. I started out my second pregnancy over 10lbs lighter than my first and I ended up catching up in the end. Although it would have been fine if I didn't also. I started this pregnancy 30lbs heavier and I've only gained 2lbs so far, I'm 12 weeks. I'm super happy with 2lbs and I hope my weight gain stays within normal.
I started this time 10 pounds heavier than last time. My nausea has been stronger, now with heartburn too, so I am actually a pound or two under my starting weight. At this point in my last pregnancy I had gained about 10-14 pounds....so I think this is another example of everything being different with every pregnancy. As long as you are eating healthfully and the baby is growing, I wouldn't worry too much right now!
Yeah, I'm still 8 pounds under my beginning weight from this pregnancy, and I'm 15 weeks today. I wouldn't worry about it because it's not uncommon to lose weight in the first trimester. Of course, I was about 30 lbs heavier at the beginning of this pregnancy than last one.
But still, you have to think about it this way: weight gain in the first trimester? Not the baby. The baby/amniotic fluid/placenta doesn't begin being a significant source of weight until well into the second trimester. If you still haven't gained any weight at all by about 22-24 weeks, THEN I'd start to worry.
By 16 weeks with my first, I had lost twenty pounds. With my second, I was down about 8 or ten by 16 weeks. I'm 16 weeks yesterday and I think I'm like ten pounds under or so.
With my first, my m/s was SOOOOO bad. With my second, not so bad....I just seemed to eat less. My m/s wasn't as bad as my first this time, but worse than my second...it's been gone for a few weeks now and I feel my appetite picking up a bit...but with all of my pregnancies, my appetite stinks while I'm in the beginning "sicky" phase...then, I have a burst of appetite after my sickness leaves, but soon after go back to eating very normally and get another burst around 30 or so weeks...that disappears around 35 weeks and stays away for good.
So, who knows. I eat when I'm hungry. My diet is awesome. I'm not worried!!
Another vote for within the range of normal. During my first pregnancy I didn't start gaining above my original weight (I think I lost about 8 lbs) until 24 weeks. the midwives didn't worry. I gained something like 25 lbs in about 12 weeks.
Do you feel like you are eating lots of healthy food and a good, balanced diet? If so, I don't think you need to worry. The weight will come!
This is helpful for me to read as well. I was getting concerned because I am at 13 weeks and seem to have lost about 5lbs this week, despite m/s and food aversions being mostly gone and seeming to eat all the time. My 21mo old son just self-weaned, a week ago, so I wondered if that had anything to do with it. I did lose weight in the 1st tri with my first as well, but I was sick with Lyme disease then as well, so I was worried that I was sick with something else this time. Now I feel like everything is probably normal.
