Anyone else been gbs+ in the past and doing something pre-emptive this time?

With DD1 and DD2 I was GBS+.  With DD3 I did the whole few weeks of supplements and such before hand and got a negative.  I am kicking around going ahead and upping my supps that will help that now, and have a good foundation before the test.

Anyone else been down this road?

I was GBS+ with DD, and I would like to do something pre-emptive this time around but I'm not really sure what course to take.  Do you mind sharing what you did last time? smile.gif

I wasn't GBS+ last time, but (with my midwife's agreement) I took GSE capsules 2 or 3 times a day beginning about 3 weeks before my swab and through the remainder of my pregnancy.  I'll probably do the same thing this time, just in case it actually helped.

I will have to dig up the exact thing, but it included probiotics, echinacea, garlic capsules, vitamin C, grapefruit seed extract, and maybe something else?

Is GBS something that you are likely to have if you had it before and vice versa?  I didn't have it with either of my other pregnancies so does this make me less likely to have it again?

Fern, I have noticed form years on this board that is does trend positive with some and negative with some.  I think some people are just more prone to carry it.  Just like I never ever get yeast infections but my SIL gets them all the freaking time.  This is my official "stayed at a holiday inn express last night" answer. :)

Thanks, that makes sense.

I was negative with my first and positive with the 2 and 3. Before my test with 3 I took a load of different supplements and was still positive. I want to try something again this time but don 't want to spend a ton of money only to have it fail.

I used garlic cloves inserted vaginally overnight, for 1 week before the test. I also rinsed a few times a day with hydrogen peroxide as well as took a double dose probiotic. I started the probiotic at 30 weeks, did the rinses from 36w and inserted garlic one week before test and the 3x a week thereafter. I use a needle and thread to make the garlic clove into a tampon of sorts for easy retrieval:) I tested + with my first, - with my second, and refused the test with my third. I used the garlic internally with #3 as well as kept up my probiotics, just for peace of mind:) I'll be doing the same thing this time around- no testing but using some natural things to keep it at bay as much as possible. I'm not overly concerned as my water has broken just minutes before birth with all 3:)

I was GBS+ with DS.  This time around I've been eating some So Delicious Coconut yogurt on a daily basis.  I'll also drink their Kefir every so often (don't buy it too often).  I've been making sure to get more Vitamin C too.  I heard that everyone has GBS and that it tends to surface (as in you can test positive) on a biweekly basis or something like that.  Either way, it's in all women from what I know.  I'm just hoping it won't be surfaced when they test with this pregnancy.
