Left out prepared bone broth too long...what would you do?

Hi,

This is only my second time making bone broth . Why is that relevant? because I still haven't gotten my game down pat about things.... so this morning I put the bone broth in the crock-pot for 10 hours and it was supposed to be done by 4.30 PM...

Well around 4.30 we went out for 2 hours and I completely forgot about the broth being done so by the time I got to it ..it had been sitting out for close to 2.5 hrs. It was rather lukewarm (room temperature)

Should I toss it out? Boil it again and use it? Right now I put it on high in the crockpot for 2 hours but am having so many second thoughts about feeding it to my daughter 2.5 yrs old... Am afraid of giving her something contaminated.....

Please help

Oh, I would definitely reboil and use it. There is no way germs could survive an hour long boil!

Boil on the stove versus the high on crockpot (I think high on crockpot is 100 degree C but it doesn't really boil the soup)?

It's not a problem.  Use it as is.  Or re-boil it if you care.  It would be a problem if you let is sit for a long out prior to cooking it, but as long as you cooked it first, and it was mostly undisturbed since then, it is fine.  I always let my stock cool, covered, on the stove top.

Think of this, how often have you made a soup or any food and left it out on the stove-top while you ate, cleaned up, etc?  This is no different.
