Almost potty trained, taking poo diaper off during naps!

Okay, I'm so frustrated with this one right now.  He's 2yo and almost potty trained....has never pooed in the potty though.  Does great during waking hours without diapers.  I've been using diapers for nap and overnight.  A few months ago he took his diaper off before 'waking' in the am and played in the poo.  He's done it once in a blue moon since then until we went without diapers during the day and now naptime or overnight is the only time he'll poo, and more often then not he's been taking off his diaper and playing in it.  He must be holding it because he's never been a scheduled pooper.

Now, we have a crib tent as he sleeps in the same room as his 1yo brother and his climbing out of the crib has been a safety hazard.  So this mess inside a mesh crib tent is a nightmare.

Last night I had him go without a diaper and got him up at about 10pm to potty and he did.  I should have gotten him up again at about 3 or 4 since he was wet when he got up, but no poo.

So, naptime we did no diaper and it was the worst ever!  I checked on him every 15 min after laying him down, because if he didn't go right off to sleep he'd poo, I'd change it then he'd go to sleep.  And we really need this midday nap.  At the first check he'd peed, I took care of that and after a few checks I left him alone thinking he'd just go off to sleep and didn't have to poo.

I take him potty a lot before bedtimes, we talk about poo in the potty and he's usually all about doing what my 6yo DS does so he's been trying to help too.

He's really a handful and can take anything off, short of a diaper stapled to his person.

I could really use some advice or something, I'm at my wits end!

I didn't get any replies, but thought I'd update for anyone else with this issue.

Not sure why I didn't think of it sooner, but I cut the feet off some footie pajamas and put them on him backwards and am pinning the zipper.  I have to do this anytime he goes to bed.  But for now it's working!  Yay!

Wow this sounds so rough!, I am not to potty training yet, but just wanted to offer a hug and support. Very ingenious idea with the backwards zipper.

My toddler is driving me bonkers, but there is no poo involved at this point... Good luck, mama!
