Could Something Be Wrong or "Off"?

My son just turned 5 and he seems pretty normal. He plays with cars and colors and talks like a normal 5 year old. But he doesn't know how to do things a normal 5 year old does. He doesn't comprehend it. I've tried for 2 summers in a row to teach him to ride a bike(with the training wheels) and he doesn't understand how to make the pedals go. He can't make sense of simple games. He didn't grasp how to count to 10 until 6 months ago. Could this be normal or is there delay in his learning and development?

It could be normal and it could be a delay.  Have you discussed your concerns with your pediatrician?  If your gut is telling you it's wrong, better to check it out.  You can either see a developmental pediatrician or have him assessed by your local school district.

If you can, I'd get an eval at a place like this; I wouldn't stop with your school district. He may have an issue with information processing.

Information Processing Disorders

I agree with the above posters.  It's so much easier to check things out early.  I agree there could be some sort of information processing disorder.  Along those lines, sensory processing disorders will affect being able to pedal bikes, etc, for some kids.  I think a developmental pediatrician, and possible an occupational therapist to look at the sensory stuff would be useful.
