Babywearing is roasting mom and baby! Help!

I wear my almost 4.5 week old baby in a handmade woven wrap (cotton fabric) and it is roasting both of us.  We are sweating, even in minimal clothing.  Tank top for me and baby in just a onesie.  If we do skin to skin it is even worse.

We are traveling soon and I will need to babywear.  Is there a better baby carrier that won't be so hot for us?  Help!

A ring sling (we loved our maya wrap when DS was a newborn/small baby) would be cooler.  If you want two shoulder support a mei tai would also be cooler (we started using ours when DS was about 10-12 pounds with his legs froggied).

A ring sling might be cooler... Plus, it's OK to dress your baby a little less warmly than you would if he/she were in a stroller. People never seem to understand how much body heat babies get when they're being carried! You'll know if he/she gets cold.

I found I was almost always overheated in the first few months after birth. I'm not sure why but I think it was hormonal -- it was the middle of a Montreal winter and I was happy with a light fall jacket!

I think a mei tai or a SSC like the Gemini would be much cooler. I actually used the Gemini in the summer in 90 degree weather and was comfortable. Definitely use a thin T-shirt/onesie because I also felt skin to skin was way hotter and stickier. The sides are more open with a SSC that buckles and I think air flow is greatly increased.

I like my old mei tai which isn't pretty but handmade by a mom in our bw group with some kind of canvas material that is not snuggly/fuzzy so it's much cooler. I don't really use that one anymore but it was great when DD was very little.

The Gemini is also great for little ones because you can snap the bottom to make it narrow enough to not need an insert at all. great head support but no hood and the fabric is soft but cool

A ring sling is definitely cooler but I prefer two shoulder support, especially when DD was little and needed more head support. Pulling the ring sling up around her for support was too warm.

I live in southern Florida. I've always stuck with a sling and a mei tai (sling for when they're tiny, mei tai once they get some weight), and even through the summer they've served us fine.

A gauze wrap like the gypsy bali breeze might be a good option as well, they're probably going to be the coolest as far as wraps are concerned.

Ok, I'm definitely going to get a mei tai!  We live in a hot climate so it will be great year round for us.  Will also look into a ring sling and see if I can find some gauzy fabric for a cooler wrap.
