Help! We were planning to go to a Christmas party tonight and I just got an email from one of the hosts that a little girl that will be attending has chicken pox. I don't know if i've ever had them. My mother doesn't know if i've had them (yeah long story with that...lol) Do I go? What if i get them? Is it safe? Crap!

Chicken pox is going around here and so I got my titers checked, even though I know I had it as a kid.  My did not come back immune, so my midwives told me to come in and get some shot ASAP if I was exposed, especially before 20 weeks.

Sorry, if it were me, there is no way I'd go to the party.

I would not risk exposure to varicella during pregnancy.  As an aside, if the child has chicken pox, why is she going out to a party?  Is it a pox party?  Unless people purposely want to be exposed, I don't understand why someone would bring a child with chicken pox out to a party.

THIS!!!  It can cause so many more problems to an unborn baby than to anyone else.  Not only wondering why they would want to expose anyone else but why on earth would they want their poor little girl to suffer thru a party if she's not feeling well?!?!?

Thanks to Jen for the link from the mayo clinc. After reading that I told DH that I would not be attending. He called our friends that were hosting, and they said that the couple with the little girl that has the pox wasn't attending. I guess the hosts wanted them to come but they decided not to bring her out. They were saying this is her second time having them so she doesn't feel ill with a fever etc but just is spotty. I guess that's why they were debating. So glad they didn't end up coming. There were two pregnant ladies at the party. Thanks for the feedback ladies!
