Help - my 2 y/o is SO LOUD!

Title pretty much says it all.  She's always had a pretty good speaker but these days it's unbearable.  Even regular things that she's saying are said at top volume.  Never mind when she's actually throwing a tantrum - it's physically painful to hear.

I am constantly reminding her to ask quietly and politely for things (eg if she screams "MILK!" she has to ask quietly for "milk, please" before she gets it).  She can repeat her request quietly and using 'please' on direct request, but ten seconds later she's shrieking again.   It's wearing me down terribly.  Any ideas??

My ODD is a screamer also.   It makes my ear drums rattle.

This sounds stupid, but if I notice her talking really loud, I clean her ears.   I swear both her and my son when they are talking really loud, the generally have a lot of ear wax.

But I also whisper to her when she yells I WANT XXXXXXXXXX   "please whisper, you hurt mommy's ears"   And when my 21 mo old shrieks, I just hold my finger up to my lips and tell her shuuuushhhh quiet!!!

I ask them are we inside or outside?  Inside, right, so whats the rule?   no yelling in the house.

Does she have some places where she can go and be wild and be loud to get some of it out? MY ds is not super loud but he has become much louder since becoming a toddler than he was when he was younger. We used to go to the library all the time but now I am always getting bad looks from the librarians because he is loud in there so I have to shush him.

So I have been making more effort to take him to toddler gyms and indoor playgrounds where he is allowed to run around and yell happily and be loud so that he can get some of it out! that is my suggestion - try to get her to places where she can get some of it out, and then you won't always feel like you have to shush her! Also- maybe give her some things to do at home that can get some energy out- like a trampoline or a musical instrument?

Sometimes I send her out on the deck to yell.  She doesn't seem to get much traction out of it though.  She'll give a couple of halfhearted yawps, then come back inside.  Five minutes later she's screeching again.

It's true I have not cleaned her ears in a while.  It's certainly worth a shot.
