OMG I would not wish this burning pain on anyone, mainly in hands and soles of feet/toes  Thank goodness dd (2 months) doesn't seem too distraught.  She has it too.  don't have much timr but I'm desperate for pain relief or sleep aids compatible with bf....I need to sleep b4 i go insane.   I'm going to the ER tomorrow.  Ideas?  anyone had this badly?  how long did the PAIN last????  thx wise mamas

Thx for asking - I did and got some Ativan 1 mg (not likely to show up much in the milk) since the strong antihistamine they prescribed didn't do anything for the itch.  DH just brought dd to nurse when she was hungry and I finally got relief and slept!   Anyone who says hand, foot and mouth disease (coxsackle virus) is mild in adults obviously didn't get my case.  Can't even walk properly due to blistery feet either.  But I think (hope) we're over the hump.  dd is fine, just a little irritable.

We have never gotten that one.  We did get fifths disease but the girls get it years apart.  Sorry you have to go through this.  Hope you heal up quickly.

I had it a few months ago when DS got it. I had it way worse than him. It was miserable I send my condolences! IME the blisters only lasted a few days.

It's 2am and the itching is driving me nuts! Have caught it off my dd. everything I've read says it's mild, but all the comments are to the contrary. I echo every comment I've read, the fever and chills has wiped me out the last 3 days, the itching tonight is driving me wild, I'm dreading the blisters coming out, the ulcer is bad enough. Need some relief!!! All descriptions of this definitely need reviewing, it is definitely NOT mild! Aaaarghh...I just wanna be mum again but I have no energy,I hope that bit passes quickly!

Sorry you're going through it Spicey.  You'll be feeling better within a week or two I bet.  Some of my toenails and fingernails actually fell off a couple months later from blisters underneath I never knew were there.  Take care.

Oh man! I remember that - it hurt like mad. I got it when DD got it.  She was in pain, and that was the first time we gave her any ibuprofen because her bottom was covered with blisters as were her feet.  I got them on my feet and hands.  So painful!  I only used ibuprofen at that time.  I hope everyone gets some relief.
