Yesterday I went through one of two junk drawers and threw out a bunch of papers, paper clips, old pens, elastic bands, old coupons, etc.  I'm going to count each "category" of item and call it 5.  Today I went through a cupboard in the basement and recycled/threw away, got ready to  donate 16 items.  I've got another 8 items to sell (7 video games plus one book on CD).  So that is 29 more items.

I want to join!  I don't know if I can hit 2012 items, as I am a big purger and not a big shopper, but I think it would be a lot of fun to tally it up.  I have a box in my coat closet that I add things to constantly and then when it is full I take it to the thrift store so I will just count the number of items in the box before I take it out.

1 bag given to a friend, today.

New total: 150 out of 2012.

My task for tomorrow and Sunday is to purge approximately 50 items and try and make it to 200. Hopefully it goes well and I come back with a happy update. :)

Yesterday was good - I spent some time sifting through the children's toy areas looking for garbage, broken toys, things I *know* they never play with.  They have a lot of stuff and I do involve them in the bigger picture of paring down, but sometimes I need to just do some of it on my own.  I also added to my pile to take to consignment - hope to do that early next week.

4 items returned by mail (decided not to count the $ here since they were just from Christmas - I'm only going to count $ I earn from things that have been cluttering up the house for a while)

27 random items trashed/recycled

1 holey pair of rain boots trashed

4 broken toys trashed

1 lost piece out of a library book returned to the library and put back in the book where it belongs (proud of DD for that!)

3 borrowed items in the car to return to their owners when I see them next

Off to goodwill - 3 kitchen items, 13 toys, 17 clothing

= 73 items yesterday

19 + 73 = 92/2012

Leaving soon to drop off the goodwill items and hopefully I'll have time to declutter some more this afternoon!  Yay!

Didn't do a full 30 minutes of decluttering yesterday, but I managed to get rid of:
1 holiday button
1 pile of receipts
and 6 old mirrors

Today I decluttered:

1 dead checkbook

1 stack of "baby coupons" (tossed the ones for free formula, sent the ones I'll use to Diapers.com)

7 first aid/personal care items left over from the hospital

1 ancient empty bottle of vitamins that I kept "just in case I forgot the brand" (who cares? I'll buy another brand? omg)

1 gift set of bath products I will never use

1 ugly picture frame

1 board game we've never played

1 Barbie-printed reusable cold pack (because I'm not 12)

1 Barbie watch

1 glitter purple pair of "party glasses" (

3 ugly ornaments

1 microfiber hair towel, new in box

1 book on living greener

1 "sheet saver" (apparently this is something you put on top of sheets to keep baby from spitting up and soiling the sheets. I thought the sheets were the protective layer?!)

2 packages of corner cushions

1 can of anti-static spray

1 can of black "shoe cream"

2 votive candle holders

4 christmas cheese knives

1 frighteningly ugly Christmas baby figurine

1 package of paintballs

1 expired box of chocolate chip cookie dough balls from 2009

1 miscellaneous stack of receipts

1 box of "electronic cleaning wipes"

1 stack of pink ribbons cut to unusable lengths

1 Dave & Buster's card (so that's where that went!!)

------------

39/2012

Some quick math told me I need to declutter 38.6 things per week to stay on top of this challenge. Since it's the 6th, thought I'd better get my quota done for the week! thumb.gif

My SIL came over today to spend some time, and I "decluttered" 34 items into her possession.  29 skeins/bundles/balls of yarn, and 5 crochet books.  Hopefully my BIL doesn't kill me.  orngbiggrin.gif

Plus the 4 booze bottles I had DH empty from the liquor cabinet.  That brings me to 172/2012.

I did some math today too to figure out how much I would need to get rid of every day (5.5 items) which is really not that much. Makes it seem far more doable.

Now to just get up and do it! You, though, are killing it!

Well, today I organized DS's toys, which had me get rid of 3 books, 3 balls, and a truck.  I also decluttered the other (scarier) junk drawer and tossed 16 more random things including expired coupons, an entire "Entertainment" coupon book, some dry pens, a binder...I counted 16 things.  That's 23 for today.  DS is just in bed, and I plan on relaxing but I've got the "chuck it" bug, so who knows what else I might find tonight.

New Total:

$42.00 (hopefully those video games and the book on CD will sell!)
