Ok, today DH and I got around to a chore that has been needing doing for years and if it weren't for this challenge likely could have sat for another few years!  We cleaned out the storage area that is underneath the front porch.  Our porch is poured concrete so it is more than a crawl space but not quite full standing height (maybe 5' high) by about 5' by 16' and was full of old school things (text books, DHs art supplies and architecture supllies), christmas decorations, camping stuff, gardening stuff, etc. etc.  We filled the back of our truck with stuff that is either garbage or donations including:

Garbage

trim x 7

old downspout

shelving x 5

window security bars x5

old broken watering can

weed killer x2

old xmas lights x20

xmas tree stand

air hose with a hole in it

old lamp

random text books x5

random art supplies x 10 (dried up paints, etc.)

old chopping block (used for DHs art classes)

old curtain rod

old bag of plaster

random garbage x15

Donations

picnic basket

pot

xmas ornaments x 3

camping bbq

air matras x2

air pump

books x 5

Today's total: 91 (but it feels like a lot more!!)

New Total:

698 705/2012

I also have to say that now that DH and I have so much more room under the front of the house, and now that we are on a purging streak we have decided to try to forgo building a new storage shed to replace the one that we had to get rid of last year, so this challenge is saving us another $1500.00 based on how much DH thought it would cost to build the storage that he wanted to build in the back yard (so probably more, because his estimating skills are usually 15-20% off), not to mention the time to build it!!! So new $$ Total: $1796.35   thumb.gif

Edited to add a dingy pair of DHs socks, an expired can of artichokes from the pantry and 5 greeting cards (from my wedding shower in 2000!) that I came across in a box that was in the storage under the front of the house.

That makes 104 total. Now to get the boxes of books out of here, and then perhaps I'll start to tackle the attic or the basement.

I am officially in! It's the middle of the night and I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about our clutter and mess. I know I need motivation and support so here I am. I'm setting my subscription notification for this thread to Immediate so I can stay motivated throughout the day--and cheer you all on. I also joined the 10-15 minute cleaning session thread. Things have to change around here or I'll lose what sanity I have. dizzy.gif
