I'm in a similar situation. Numbers suddenly go up, then stagnate for a good while. We're renovating, so things are happening in spurts and as more is completed, more is able to be unpacked and dealt with. I hope to unpack some 25 boxes starting in 7 days from now (when our WIR's are put in). I think I am more excited about purging than setting up home. ;)

Good luck with your packing!

Transferred stuff from our fridge freezers into the new standup deep freeze last night (still need to tackle the chest deep freeze, but since it is outside and we got about 8 inches of snow last night I'm going to hold off until some of it melts) and threw away about 15 freezer burned items.  Hopefully the new deep freeze will really help to eliminate the waste as I'll actually be able to see what I have and what I need.

Edited to Update:

Tonight DH and I moved all the stuff from the chest deep freeze into the new standup deep freeze.  I threw away about 10 more items (including a box full of frozen BM, probably 100oz at least).  Sad, but DH will only drink it "on tap" and it is too old to give away).  Then, I delved into the office and started in the closet.  Items tossed, ready for donation or to recycle include: hangers, a bunch of papers, scraps of fabrics, some empty boxes, 2 table cloths and some place mats, etc.  If I count the hangers as 1 item and the bag of garbage as 1 item I'll call it 25.  So, the office closet is well on its way to looking better and actually being organized and we're down 35 more items tonite. smile.gif

Edited to Update (again):

More work in the basement closet tonight.  Tonight we got ride of 7 frames (since we don't have art to go in them right now anyway), a bag of cat toys (8 items), a cardboard box, random scraps of fabric (maybe 3?) plus one small bag of garbage and did more organizing of sewing supplies/materials.

I haven't checked in for some time - but I have been slowly gathering piles and yesterday I finally dropped off 2 boxes and 2 large bags at the Goodwill Store. I have also been getting ready for the kids consignment sale which is coming up in a couple of weeks. I'll list those things after the sale.

In the meantime I was also able to sell a book back to Amazon. I'm still waiting for  the money to be deposited into my account. They sent an email that I should receive it in 3 -5 days.

So here's my list:

Trash/Recycled

2 dried plants

8 markers

2 cellphone chargers

2 items from freezer

4 piles of paper

2 expired coupons

1 bag of old socks with holes

4 broken water pistols

2 outdoor x-mas wreath (taken down)

Donated

1 set earphones

2 toys

1 empty tin with lid

1 notecard

1 empty spray bottle

128 clothes and shoes from the kids and myself

1 book returned to owner

1 book sold back to Amazon

1 pair of mittens returned to REI for store credit

New Total:

126 + 319 = 485

$ 40.58 + 30.50 = 73.08

Tonight I tackled the basement kitchen and found 63 items to toss, recycle or give away.  Several glasses and coffee mugs we just don't use, about 4 sets of keys that don't have any keys on them that fit our doors (odd, that one!), several dead pens, etc. etc.  DH finally went through his architecture magazines in our office and so far has found 64 he is willing to part with.  Wow, 127 more things gone as of tonight!

I love this!  Great goals JPiper! thumb.gif

Mine are similar to yours.  For me, I would add:

- reduce mental stress and clutter caused by disorganization and mess

- live more simply by getting rid of things that don't add value to my family's life

- be motivated to get off the consumer treadmill by seeing how much STUFF I've bought or been given that I don't NEED!!

There is a chance we could be moving. My lease is up on 5/1/12 and I need to decide by 4/1/12.  This is very scary for me, we just moved in here a year ago.  So much stuff has been purchased to make this apt 'home'.  But neighbor issues, no job, and some other things have happened to make me want to relocate.  I've been wavering on this point for years, literally.  I think its time.  My child will be 12 at the end of summer- OMG how did that happen.  We need to go, I fear if we don't go now, we won't ever go.

I want a totally fresh start, this year in the apt has shown me that I CAN DO THIS... my son and I deserve our own place, now I just need to move us across the country to a totally different climate and social atmosphere.  UGH.

So a few things I really want to do:

Be ruthless on the books

Be ruthless on the lego's

Be ruthless on the crafts

finish moving stuff out of the old roomies place uhoh3.gif

Finish unpacking here, I'm not moving boxes that are still packed

go through my clothes, I have stuff thats TOO BIG!!
