So every year, usually twice a year, I get a cough lasting 4-8 weeks. It happens every summer and every fall, as the temperatures change. This year I have had it three times- spring, fall, and now again. And it drives me crazy, affects my workouts and generally makes it hard to do anything, because I always panting/heaving/coughing up a lung and what have you. My doctors have only suggested taking cough medicines during it to relieve symptoms but no one is helpful at all with curing it. I am hoping maybe I can cure it by diet or lifestyle change during those times or maybe all year, if I need to. I had asthma as a child but seem to have grown out of it (2 years without an attack) but my breathing is still shaky and weak; it's been the hardest thing to improve when I exercise. If anyone can point me towards some helpful information about this, that would be great.Â

Honestly, it sounds to me like asthma. Sounds exactly like my mom's experience with it, and my guess is that it is triggered by allergies. I'd try an inhaler, allergy testing and maybe even shot if applicable. It's helped my mom tremendously. She was misdiagnosed with bronchitis constantly.

I have had an allergy test, approximately 3 1/2 years ago and came back negative for any kinds of allergies at all. I can't take albuterol inhalers anymore (they never seemed to do much good anyways...) because they were given to me too much and the last couple of times I took one I thought my lungs were on fire. there are alternatives but neither of the ones I have tried have done me much good with normal breathing or coughing, though they did loosen up my lungs during my last few attacks (2 years or so ago). What kind of shot would help with this? Like some sort of allergy medication shot?
