Co-sleeping with a foam mattress?

I can't find any information on whether or not this is safe. We've co-slept with our other babies, and enjoyed it, but we now have one of those high density foam (suuuuuper comfy) mattresses. I wonder if it will allow our new baby to sink down into it too much? Any thoughts or experience?

Bump to see if anyone knows where I could find some information about what kind of mattresses are safe for co-sleeping? Are only inner spring mattresses safe?

Ours is a full foam mattress but it is quite firm. I have never worried about DD sinking into it. I actually bought it when I was pregnant with her to support my back and thinking it would be a good sleep spot for her. Do you insist upon back sleeping? I guess I worry very little about the softness of the surface where DD sleeps because she is a back sleeper, and rarely if ever rolls to her belly for sleeping. I actually found co sleeping more comfortable with our foam mattress because it does not do that dip in the middle thing like inner springs does. With DS, I felt that it was DH, baby in a dip, and then me. The foam mattress never gave us that problem. That's my experience!

Good point about a baby put on their back -- it would be harder for a small baby to roll over. You didn't find that the baby sunk too far down? Part of my worry is them being in this little pocket, so to speak, and rebreathing the same air over and over (a risk for SIDS).

We have a ceiling fan in our room that we run on low while sleeping to avoid the same-air issue to some extent anyway. Maybe our mattress is not as soft as yours? Because we don't sink much and DD doesn't really sink at all. Also, because cosleeping and breastfeeding creates such a "light" state of sleeping for the LO's , I find that my kiddos turn their heads from one side to the other when their breathing/air becomes uncomfortable, KWIM? When DD was really little, my biggest concern  was the stuck-in-one-spot aspect of the foam mattress combined with the blanket on the bed should it get pulled up on her. So we only slept with a sheet, up to our waists, until she was 6 months.

Ceiling fan, fan, humidifier.. could help circulate & freshen the air in the room and give you some peace? Also I think you will find the spot in the bed where baby sleeps will not sink very much because baby doesn't weigh very much! Even now at 22 lbs DD really doesn't make a dent in the mattress.

Good point about the baby not weighing enough to cause much of an indent. We do have a firm mattress, and I always sleep with a fan on, so it sounds like we'll be OK. I appreciate your help!

I heard a speculated problem with foam mattresses is rolling onto the baby and not knowing it because the baby sinks into the mattress.  But I don't know if that's ever really happened.

We have a Tempurpedic mattress and DD and I have co-slept since she was a month old on it.  I was worried at first, but soon realized she didn't weigh enough to cause her to sink down into the mattress.  Also, I'm relatively thin, so I don't sink down much either.  I didn't feel there was much risk of me causing her to roll into my depression (because there wasn't one) and she wasn't creating one, so as long as she fell asleep on her back, she was fine.
