When I was in high school I heard a rumor that 95% of babies conceived by artificial insemination with frozen sperm were boys. I think that number is an exaggeration but I am curious what our numbers are on this board.

You can pick as many answers as fit your family.

Thanks!

I think it has a lot to do with the freezing procedure as the female sperm tends to succumb in poor conditions. The number I heard when we were TTC was closer to 60% likelihood of frozen sperm producing male babies. Our bank claimed their samples resulted in a 55% male /45% female split. That said, our donor's frozen sperm has resulted in 10 boys (2 of which are mine) and 2 girls last I checked.

I should add that I really wanted a girl for my first for so many reasons not the least of which being that I've never understood the male of our species. I used to be a lesbian separatist at heart and couldn't wait to raise a rad feminist girl. My heart sank when we learned we were having a boy. Of course I fell in love with him the moment he was born and wouldn't have him any other way. Now that I have two boys who are my sun and moon, if we go for a third, I really hope it's another boy. 3 sons would be amazing! :)

Even for straight folk, doing things conventionally, there is a SLIGHTLY higher chance of having a boy (something like 51% boy).

From votes we are up to

Fresh, 5 girls and 3 boys

Frozen, 6 girls and 12 boys

For the record I'm excited that we're having our third boy, making the house totally even, but I thought it was a little odd that all 3 kids who came from frozen are boys and the one who came from fresh is a girl.

I don't know anything about frozen, because we used fresh, however, one reason artificial insemination is more likely to result in a boy is because the XY sperm is faster but dies more quickly, XX sperm swims more slowly but lasts longer. So if you are testing your ovulation and insem. on the day you ovulate, there is a higher chance of the XY sperm making it to your egg and resulting in a boy. It was true for us-- my wife got prego with a boy when we did the inseminating on the day she ovulated, for me we inseminated 5 days before I ovulated, so by the time I ovulated all the XY sperm was dead, and we got a girl.

I had always heard this but recently read it was disproved. Somethings about pH and X and Y swimming in different patterns.  I obviously don't know enough about it.

I remember reading this, too (I think the statistic I read was that 80% of babies from frozen sperm were boys), but also remember reading that newer technology has made it more like 50-50 (something about the freezing process?). I have four boys, all conceived with frozen sperm. I figured that our (anonymous) donor simply made boy sperm. But we've found a rather large sampling of his offspring now (maybe 35 kids?), and they are, indeed, 50-50 girls and boys. So, it's just a random happening, I suppose.

We found out this morning that we are having a girl! She was conceived using frozen sperm, doing ICI at home, and DW was not doing medicated cycles. She was our fifth try.

Also, we know of four donor sibs. One girl, three boys.

Our timing was so spot on with ovulation, we thought surely we would have a boy in there, but she gave up her girly bits this morning for sure.

Woah there are a lot of boys here! Well, we are having a little girl! All girl power at our house! 5 girls total (wife and I, two older daughters, and one daughter on the way)!

we used fresh and have one of each.  though our first fresh was in person and 2nd fresh was through the mail so not frozen but not "as fresh"   . that would be a hard vote though. smile.gif

We used fresh and had a girl.  I have always claimed it was because we inseminated 2 days before 0 and the X sperm live longer.  Who really knows...

Does it count that I tried swaying for a boy this time?

What did you do to sway?
Taking suggested vitamins and adding juices to make alkalinity of CM boy sperm friendly. And avoiding juices that make alkalinity of CM girl friendly. Also used baking soda to make alkalinity high right before insem. Insem was timed so close to ovulation as well.

Fascinating. Out of curiosity, which way does pineapple juice go?
Esenbee--I've never heard about using baking soda, etc, to try for a boy vs. girl.

We did IVF and had a girl, which doesn't seem super helpful for this board, but what can I do? smile.gif

Pineapple juice is boy sway. I continued drinking it in the 2WW for implantation.
