I'm new here

I just wanted to say hi. I ave been lurking for a few months and thought I would join the fun.

I have 2 kids , dd8 (second grade) not identified as gifted yet and ds6 who has been identified as highly gifted. We live in Illinois the land of no funding and no gifted mandates.

We live in the same "land" as well eyesroll.gif.  Are your kids in public school?  I have a DS (age 10) who is identified as gifted and two DDs who have never been tested.  We moved here from Bloomington, IN a year ago and I'm still trying to get "something" for my DS.  So far, not much luck.

Both my kids are in public schools right now.  I am waiting on the WISC summary and WIAT results for ds before I start looking at some of the private. We are not too far from Quest Academy, The Einstein Academy and DaVinci Academy. I want to look at the all. I will probably also peek at Coonley and the Arts and Math academies as well.

It's good that you have private school options where you are.  I've done some research into the private schools here and am not too impressed with the options.  I am considering homeschooling for the upcoming school year (5th grade), but I'm a bit apprehensive about that too.  Good luck to you.

Are you thinking of doing a 1 year homeschool stint, or going longer?  The one reason I ask is that 5th grade is considered a big year around here, where they try to cement all the high level skills before sending the kids into middle school. 

 

No great options, for sure.  Around here, despite the presence of a big city and 3 major, highly academic private schools, I've pretty much eliminated each of them as non starters for my kids.  Of course, after watching some of DD's testing yesterday, none would even take her.  bigeyes.gif
